English: We expected banjos and Bourbon but received nothing of that sort. Instead our brew day with the handsome fellers of Against The Grain Brewery from Louisville, Kentucky turned into a hotdog eating contest. Yep, no kiddin’. Big Kentuckian feller, Sam, challenged our own big feller, Jacob, as to who could down the most gourmet hotdogs, big and spicy as they were with specialty toppings. Well, Sam should never have done that….should you Sam? However, a beer was indeed brewed in between all the trash talk and wieners. We hope you’ll enjoy this hoppy Imperial Brown Ale - it was designed to go with hotdogs in particular and other spicy and smoked foods.

Ingredients: Water. Malts: Pale, Brown, Melanoidin, Biscuit, Chocolate. Hops: Herkules, Tomahawk, East Kent Goldings, Cascade, Simcoe. Yeast: US-ale.

Smell of sesame oil. Taste a bit as well but with roasty malts. Nice but not exceptional.

(Bottle) Reddish brown colour with lasting, beige head, leaving traces of lacing. Malty, hoppy, slightly roasty nose with notes of crisp-bread, dark chocolate, dried fruit, orange peel, brown sugar, some grapefruit and tropical fruit. Malty, hoppy taste with dark rye bread, chocolate, crisp-bread, dried fruit, orange peel, caramel, tropical fruit and a fair dose of grapefruit in a finish with a generous citric bitterness. Medium body, fairly dry. Tasty and quite complex with a solid hop character. Nice one.

A nice touch of hops in this beer. Caramel sweetness with the alcohol on top. I also sense some smoked meat in there? But that could just be the image of the hot dog messing with my brain. Enjoyable, but not enough to revisit.

Date if this beer is almost going to expire so the bottle shop gave it away for almost nothing. Good. Since the hops overwhelming fresh hops would surely make this beer worse. But ...it’s not the case now. Aroma is brown cake and sweet toffee. Quite a lot of pomelo skin in the background. Some little resin too. Also spices. Quite nice. Thick with medium carbonation. Mouth sticks but taste is not cloying. Packed with brown cake , burned caramel, toffee and candied bitter orange. Nice.

16.9 oz bottle poured into a nonic pint glass. Dark amber brown with two fingers of beige head. Aromas of pine, floral, toffee, light cocoa and malt. Tastes of floral, toast, biscuit, light pine, caramel and toffee, light cocoa. Medium body with a dry finish. Nice hopped up Imperial Brown. Think I got this a year ago during RBWG 2015, seems to have held up well.
