English: We expected banjos and Bourbon but received nothing of that sort. Instead our brew day with the handsome fellers of Against The Grain Brewery from Louisville, Kentucky turned into a hotdog eating contest. Yep, no kiddin’. Big Kentuckian feller, Sam, challenged our own big feller, Jacob, as to who could down the most gourmet hotdogs, big and spicy as they were with specialty toppings. Well, Sam should never have done that….should you Sam? However, a beer was indeed brewed in between all the trash talk and wieners. We hope you’ll enjoy this hoppy Imperial Brown Ale - it was designed to go with hotdogs in particular and other spicy and smoked foods.

Ingredients: Water. Malts: Pale, Brown, Melanoidin, Biscuit, Chocolate. Hops: Herkules, Tomahawk, East Kent Goldings, Cascade, Simcoe. Yeast: US-ale.

Described as an ’imperial brown ale’, this collaboration brew is apparently intended as an accompaniment to barbecued meat... Thick, light beige head, deep chestnut colour with protein flakes floating here and there. Powerful aroma of smoked bacon and hamburgers, nutmeg, pepper, fennel seed, mint, peanuts, green hops (dry-hopping), pepper, candied figs, dried leaves - in all, a weird hodgepodge. Dry fruitiness, caramelly and nutty maltiness, very spicy, smoky with a strong leafy and peppery hop bitterness in the finish, complex but not well-balanced and frankly, the aroma promised better. Nevertheless an interesting brew.

Countbeer (4429) - Best of E-Town mit ein Brauhaus, NETHERLANDS - AUG 30, 2014
Bottle: Served in a Chouffe glass: Medium sized vanilla creamy beige tan head with a hazy brown body. Aromas of hops, coffee, some roast, some cacoa... Flavours of bitters, coffee, liquorice bitterness, herbs, toast, roast, chalk, some cacoa ish tints and herbal bitters. Aftertaste is a mix of bitters, some hops, toast, light coffee, light bay leaf... Low carbo, creamy mouthfeel, full bodied and a creamy dry bitter texture. Quite a heavy beer, good bitter, nice hop and coffee tones.

Sampled @ Gents Bierfestival 2014. 650 ml. bottle. Small creamy light brown head, spare, lightly cloudily brown,.. Metallic nose, molasses, honey nose, bit empty & simple,.. Metallic taste, dough, brown sugar, allspice, sticky sweet, cheap chocolate, bitter grapefruit finish, metallic,… Bit too light. Empty & very simple, expected a lot more from this, lots of sugar & some metal. Not bad or anything but quite disappointing.
