batch 207 bottle from dakine on 6/6/2010. pours darker than the stout we just tasted.... super dark brown and a little viscous with a creamy dense beige foam cap. holy hoppy aroma!... roast, chocolate and buttercream combine with grapefruit pith, ash, dank and dusty wet hups. the flavor really reminds me of a burnt hamburger... lots of char and ash mixed with yeast, chocolate richness and the remaining notes from the aroma. the body leans on full. the mouth feel is creamy, rich and lush but it is also prickly from the hops. 8/4/8/4/17/4.1

(Bottled, sampled 2010-04-14) Almost black with a large, tanned and lacy head. Aroma of rich American hops, no roastiness. Flavor dominated by bittering hops - need to check my eyesight, as this was my first black IPA... Also grapefruity fruitiness, and slight roastiness in a while. Medium body, slightly foamy CO2. Visually disturbing, but not bad.

Very dark brown, almost black at the glass. Small head, should be some more. Sour hoppy roasted smell. Caramel and red fruits. A bit earthy. Very roasted and hoppy taste, a but weird to get so much hops, expected more roastiness cause the looks of the beer. Roasted coffe-chocolate taste. Some spices but lots of hops and bitternes comes trough the roastiness. Like this beer.

500ml bottle (Pikkulintu, Helsinki)
6 spicy cakey aroma, sweet and a little stodgy, chocolatey too. however, it’s a bit crotchy too.
5 Black, small capuccino head
7 Retronasals a little icey, and quite hoppy. Decent roast, nice burnt edges
4 pleasant carbonation, some grassiness in the hoppy finish.
13 doesn’t know what it’s trying to be. not stout enough to be a stout, not christmassy enough to be a spicy one.

Black pour, fluffy light brown head. Aroma is crazy with hops, chocolate, bubblebgum and roasted malt. Flavor is hoppy and chocolate malt. I love the blend of hops and dark malts. MMMM chocolate covered hops.

Huge, very dense dark-beige head over deep dark orange-brown beer, with some strange blobs. Nice USA hops’ nose, very dry, dusty bales, bit of sweat, hopoils à gogo. Hefty combination of noble hops and bitter-roasted stout flaovurs (the last first, then the hops holding out); dark exotic fruit. Medium bodied, bit of grist slickness, dusty hopoil feel. Nice original interpretation. Like it.

UPDATED: JAN 4, 2011 Bottle. An unclear, dark brown beer with a light tan medium sized head. Slightly roasted on the nose, but mostly meaty and especially piney and resiny. The flavor has some roasted malts giving chocolate and cofffee, with sufficient hops to bring balance with it’s bitterness and resiny, citrusy flavors. Bitter finish. Full-bodied and nicely carbonated. Ummm. Rating: 7-4-8-4-16-3.9. 100827

Bottle. It’s a clear, very dark brown beer with just a little reddish hue. The head is creamy as hell, beige in color, two-fingers thick and with good retention. It leaves rows of cute lacings as the beer is drank. Lovely nose with lots of resiny, piney and citrusy hops, leaving the very present malts in the background. A pleasant burnt note shines through. Some notes of alcohol too, but only if you dig in deep. Flavorwise it’s also hop-dominated, not too bitter, and with enough sweetness to cope with both hops and alcohol. At least most of the hops. It feels a bit watery on the palate, quite strange, as it’s sure a full-bodied beer. The finish has a good caramel malty sweetness to back up the bitterness that lasts really long. Overall, a really well crafted beer that I wouldn’t mind repeat several times. 100526

Bottle @ UDRM. The aroma has chocolate, roast, piney hops. Black coloured beer with an off-white head. The taste is very bitter, piney hoppy, has some roast and chocolate. Medium bodied beer. okay.
