Bottle sampled at Papsø’s on 8/30/09: Transparent dark copper mahogany pour has a frothy light tan head. Has a rich complex smoky malty aroma with a touch of dark caramel and earthy peat. Starts with good fullness and rich salty smoky dark caramel with a touch of light fruity complexity and earthy peaty bitterness before a drier bittersweet finish that hides the alcohol fairly well. An enjoyable and complex smoked beer.

Bottled. Brownish coloured with a red gleam. Brownish fluffy head. Aroma of smoke, meaty bacon and light roast. Flavour is balanced smoky, herbal, baconish, has light chocolatenotes and loads of roast as well. Very nice and balanced and a lot resemblance to the Bamberg smoke. Medium to full bodied. Ends on a smoked roasty note. Very nice beer.

Bottle. Dark amber colour with a beige head. Aroma is bacon, smoked, malt. Flavour is sweet, bacon, smoked, malt, ham, hop. Powerful beer.

Dark brown with a medium to large beige head. Smoked aroma with peated and roasted malt. Aroma also carried bacon and hints of coffee. Flavor had loads of smoke, coffee, bacon, peat and roasted malt. Finished smoked. Nice.

50 cl bottle at home, shared with neighbour Kjetil, bought in Copenhagen by my mother. Aroma is smoke, but also some caramel malt. Flavor is very nice smoke and balanced sweetness. Moderate bitterness. Oily body. I like it!

Basically a good smoked beer, but I prefer Schlenkerla. Nonetheless worth a try.

50cl bottle, batch#195, BB 08/2012 bought at Alvinne beershop.
Couleur brune claire, col beige.
Arôme donne bien le ton, énormément de malt fumé laissant un profile cendre, malt caramel en retrait.
Palais, malt grillé, et torréfié avec bien au devant le malt fumé.
Le tout est sec, aspect de cendre et tourbe, grains concassés, bière semble au delà de l’alcool indiqué, très agréable et un fini réchauffant qui garde toujours ce profile sublime du malt fumé. J’adore.
Une très belle bière fumée, j’aimerai bien voir la même version en plus léger.

On tap at In de Wildeman. Slightly hazy brown colour, dense rocky beige head. Aroma of campfire, peat, tar, light salty even, really strong. Flavour is sweeter than expected, thick, smoky, peat, salty, very good malt backbone, light fruity, nice smoky bitterness in the finish. Medium to fullbodied, creamy mouthfeel. Really good.

Draft at In De Wildeman, Amsterdam. Aroma and flavor are major. Smoked peat all the way. Not much in the way of smoked meat, just smoked peat! Honestly, that’s really all there is to it. A lot of smoked peat. I thought it was awesome.

Bottle@Home. Wonderful smoke aroma. Sweet, light bitter, smoked, laurel, smooth, easy. Nice flavours.
