Bottled. Very black, smal brown head. Oaky tarry nose. Sweet and dense. Full bodied with grainy malt, salt, asphalt and alcohol. Packs a severe punch of oaky whiskey. Very intense and flavorful, and without going overboard anywhere. Well made!

Had this at Casey and Traci’s tasting 01-08-08 cheers for the great beer and food you two Pours black moving to brown at the edges and with a beige head atop. Quite oily in texture I get a whiff of dusty hops, Loz gets some ’cheesy clothes’, some burnt toast, the bitterness seeps out with each mouthfull and escapes to the back of your mouth, lacking almost entirely in sweetness which is really quite pleasant for a change, bitterness quite pronounced and liquorice and bitter, bitter chocolate (at least 90%) also show. A nice beer that I’m surprised that i’ve only rated at 3.5, still thats what I thought at the time so thats what it will get.

Bottled at RBSG. Poured black with a swirly cap of beige head.. quite a looker. The aroma picked up sour oak and bourbon upfront with dark chocolate and a bit of molasses behind.. nice, but a bit too much barrel influence. The flavor had dry-roasted chocolate and licorice on the initial impression with a whole bunch of barrel behind.. tart oak and bourbon rolled through the rough finish.. tasty overall, but not great. Medium-bodied (likely slicker due to the heavy barrel influence) with lots of tartness and harsh bitterness on the palate.. came together OK, but it struggled a bit at times.

Flaske.

Very dark brown with a thick tan head. Oak, fruit and malt tones. Roasted, coffee and chocolate. Full body with a balanced, long bittersweet finish.
