English: Forget what you think beer is all about when being warmed by this Old Ale. Forget the lack of carbon dioxide and the warm notes of wood and matured fruit require that this Old Man’s Ale is to be enjoyed in peaceful surroundings – preferably in front of the fireplace served in a big cognac glass. Old Man’s Ale has aged for four months on calvados barrels from one of the most prominent French producers; Domaine Familial Louis Dupont, and the wood grant soft tones of vanilla while the American Chinook hops add sufficient bitterness in order to balance the high malt sweetness and the significant and warming alcohol. Old Man’s Ale is indeed a beer for the quite and thoughtful moments – the cognac of beers.

Bottle from Bier Koning.

Strong nose of red apple, caramel and dark fruit. Well hidden alcohol.

Well balanced flavor profile, but wish it was slightly richer and more complex. Just doesn’t have the flavor intensity I desire in a strong, sweet beer. Overall though, I still found it to be a solid beer. I enjoyed it.

250 ml bottle, from the brewery. Batch #86. BB end of 2020. ABV is 14%. Dark brown colour, hardly any head nor any carbonation. Aroma of oak, malts, calvados and molasses. Warming mouthfeel. Very oaky and alcoholic sweet flavour, notes of calvados, brown kandij sugar and dark dried fruits. The total lack of carbonation is not to my liking.

Bottle at home, aged 2 years. Copper brown color with an almost non existing white head and chunks of yeast floating. Aroma is intensively and delightfully vinous, sweet and complex with raisins, green apples, licorice, oak, vanilla, a hint of bourbon and roasted malt. Body is medium to full but with a total lack of carbonation. Taste is sweet vinous, raisins, apples from calvados, chocolate, oak, pepper. Warming alcohol is present in both nose and taste at pleasant levels. After taste has a very balanced bitterness with notes of oranges, dry apples and wood.
