3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 andersand (484) - Malmö, - OCT 12, 2008
UPDATED: OCT 13, 2008 Dark hazy brownish amber with no head. Vinous, sweet raisin aroma with oak, liqour, caramel and vanilla. Medium bodied, sticky with plenty of vanilla taste. The finish is oaky, alcoholic and vinous with allot of fruit and heat from the alcohol. Well integrated alcohol though. Nice late evening beer.
3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 humlelala (399) - DENMARK - MAY 13, 2012
(25 cl bottle #1926; Batch 86; BBD: 2020) Pours a clear dark brown with minuscle, off-white head. Aroma is dominated by the barrel ageing with prominent notes of what seems like bourbon barrel but might as well be calvados. Watery on the palate, flat with a full body and a warming finish. Flavour has notes like the aroma with wood and raisin sweetness being the dominant notes here. For a 14% beer the alcohol is nicely subdued - perhaps because of the aging? Altogethre pleasant but maybe too reliant on the calvados for its profile.
4.4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20 jerohen (1793) - Bussum, NETHERLANDS - MAR 31, 2012
Bottled at home, approximately 2 years old. Clear amber/mahogany colored, no head nor carbonation whatsoever. Fruity and alcoholic nose, predominantly apple but also raisin, lots of malts, wood, vanilla, obviously aged, very complex. Sweet malty and very complex flavor, vanilla, fruity notes more to the background, age even more apparent than in aroma (pred. wood), quite alcoholic, very longlasting and developing bittersweet finish. This tastes like an aged British barley wine, with an additional touch of cognac. This bottle has been gathering dust for two years, and now that i’ve finally decided to taste it it’s retired. Too bad, this is a world class brew.
3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 Marsiblursi (2659) - Göteborg, SWEDEN - FEB 22, 2012
(Draught) Pours amber red to brown. The aroma is sweet apple fruity with some soft woodsy notes. Sweetish malt and soft hops. Undertones of vanilla, caramel, sugar and dried fruits. The flavour holds apples, dried fruits, vanilla-driven/woodsy oak, sugar, sweet caramel malt and a balanced and bitter hop profile. Warming alcohol with a light fiery sting. The mouthfeel is surprisingly slim and bit sticky. Dried fruits and caramel on the finish. Medium bodied.
3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 14/20 MotherBrother (297) - Aalborg, DENMARK - FEB 16, 2012
Pour deep, muddy, hazy dark amber/mahogany, with no head at all.
Big aroma of alcoholic prunes or dates. Vanilla, leather, dirt? cookie dough? And of course the barrel, givin’ some heat and some edge.
The taste is really sweet, but have some sharp bitterness comming through at the end.
Medium and oily body, with a very, very flat carb. Really vinous, and less beer(ish).

Bottle: Batch #86 Bottle No. 2129:
Small to medium off white to light yellow ish head that disappears quick.

Smell strong and good malts, liquor like whiskey, light liquorice. Like a good barrel aged barley wine. Good smell.
Taste vanilla, grains, light liquorice, malts, caramel, whiskey ish, spices, oak, wood, some sweets as in a whiskey like vanilla but more bitter. Good full bodied.
Strong malty light alcoholic and bitter spicy herby (grass and leaves) aftertaste.
Low to medium carbo, soft mouthfeel, full body and a creamy texture.
3.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 ChainGangGuy (3834) - Canton, Georgia, USA - OCT 19, 2011
Batch 86. Bottle #1221. Best Before 2020.
Appearance: Pours a medium brown body, obscured by cloudiness and layered with a thin head comprised of rather large bubbles.
Smell: A nose smelling of cherries (sweet), orange blossom honey, dark caramel, a light earthiness, a trace of rustic bread dunked in brandy, and tired, old wooden barrels ready to be halved and converted into tomato planters.
Taste: A sweet start with a taste of caramel maltiness, also some bready malts along with a bready yeastiness. Hint of florals, fruitiness. I’ve been informed it was aged in apple brand barrels, but I’m getting more of an off-brand Grand Marnier kick. A generous splash of Gammel Dansk. Earthy, tattered bitterness. Firm wood character. Has a chalky, slurry yeast vibe on the sweetish, warm finish.
Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied. Very low carbonation. A tad chalky when the sear from the alcoholic heat isn’t occurring.
Overall: It’s different, it’s almost decent, but definitely not a favorite of mine.
