English: Flemish Red - maybe it sounds more like a high yielding dairy breed than a beer, but there is no milk to be found in the contents of this bottle.
Flemish Red is a historic Belgian beer, which we here at Amager Brewery are proud to present in our experimental series of beers. With its clear character after seven months maturing in used French Bordeaux barrels and its pronounced acidity, it is a beer for exquisite and discerning palates.
In the glass Dicentra Cucullaria is a beautiful reddish brown with a lively bubbly beige head. The aroma with its refreshing acidity has been clearly influenced by the French red wine barrels. The taste is dominated by dry tart fruit - tart but never sour. In the finish there is a fine blend of acidity combined with the pleasant dryness from the hops.
Brewed using: Amarkansk municipal water, German and Viennese crystal malt, East Kent Goldings hops and English yeast cultures.
Ingredients: Water, barley malt, hops and yeast/culture

Cloudy brown color with good light brown. Incredibly sour beer in both fragrance and flavor. Not my kind of beer.

(Bottle) Deep red colour with short, frothy, beige head. Fruity, acidic nose with notes of red berries (raspberries, red-currant), cherries, earthy hints of yeast and a touch of red wine. Fruity, slightly tart taste with barnyard, earth, oak wood, red wine (with some tannins), red berries and a fresh, dry finish with a slight acidity. Medium body. Perhaps lacking the deep complexity of Rodenbach, but still a very nice Flemish red.

Pours unclear reddish brown with a tiny beige head. The aroma on this one is ripe cherries up front, sweet oak, some wild barnyardy notes, some lacto acid, ripe plums, black grapes, a red winey characte and some brett. Taste is sweet oak, cherry, sour red apples, plums, a pretty subtle fruity bitterness in there, sweeter lacto notes, red grapes, wine and tartness. Dry mouthfeel and pretty drinkable.

phredrik (877) - Aalborg, DENMARK - NOV 17, 2011
37,5 cl bottle from H.J. Hansen, Aalborg. Pours is deep reddish amber lightly chestnut if that’s a color, starts off with a cane sugar brown head, but it’s gone in 5 seconds. Its aroma is like an oud bruin aroma should be. But what strike me is that the brettanomyces is quite up front, with funk and leathery tart notes. Red wine barrel is also strongly influencing the aroma and gives notes of berries and raisins in that dry pinot noir way, and of course dry woody notes. Very elegant aroma. When the beer hits the tongue there are some red berries and cherry qualities along with a refreshing tartness. Then the red wine barrel and yeast notes occur with raisins, leather, oak, a slight spicyness, and a surprising amount of funkiness. Lots of brettanomyces with barnyard and dry, musty leather. It ends with a slightly astringent acidity, which takes off some of the elegance that you’d expect with that aroma. But I really like this one, a very good effort.
