COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION

English: It has long been a matter of discussion amongst the worlds most prominent beer experts whether one could brew a beer which is both black and pale at the same time. At Amager Bryghus we like to dispense with lengthy theoretical discussions - we are practical men of the people, so we set about proving that it is of course possible to brew a light dark beer.
You now have here in front of you a bottle of Amager Black Double India Pale Ale - a decidedly mixed breed somewhere between a well hopped Double IPA and something which is almost a stout.
The result is a beer which in the glass is a very dark brown with a high and dense beige head. Despite the color the flavour is not tremendously roasty, it is rather the hops that dominate. We pumped it up to 200 bitterness units (IBU), and then just to squeeze the rest of the life out of your tastebuds, we dry hopped it with the three c’s Cascade, Columbus and Centennial.

Rating #412, bottle from Ølbutikken

A black beer with red hue and a fine, dense, head. I can’t find words for the aroma, it is just completed cascade and other stunning hops. Flavor has it all: Roasted malts, caramel, cascade, a solid hopping all the way through and an obvious touch of sweetness to balance it all out. I can’t imagine anything making this taste better than it is. Body could be just a tiny bit more sturdy though, but the beer has a very creamy mouthfeel.

Wow, this is great. Wait, I think of something: Why not try to make it in a barrel-aged version, and improve the body to perfection? Then it could be the first beer to hit a pure 5.0 in my ratings.

Dark brown with a medium beige head. The aroma was packed with hops, grapefruits, pine, roasted malt and caramel notes. Flavour had so many hops, grapefruits, pine, roasted malt and it was bone dry. Finished seriously bitter and not like so many other high abv so called hoppy beers this one was bone dry and hoppy like hell. Masterpiece!

Mycket beska men faktiskt mindre än väntat, välbalanserad.

Bottle @ home. Brownish black pour, beige head. Aroma is fresh hops with a subtle roasted malt note. Flavour is roasted malt with smooth and strong hop bitterness, lingering on for ages. Also chocolate, hint of peat and liquorice, like there’s a hint of stout in there. Lovely stuff, very roasty and hoppy.

Black with an off-white head. Aroma is roasted malt and very hoppy - pine and grapefruit. Flavor is rather sweet and extremely bitter. Very dry and extremely bitter finish. Great stuff. 160311

Cloudy brown color; creamy head. The aroma is unexpectedly very hoppy-fruity; then some timid creamy chocolate and malts appear too; light apples. Strong body, round mouthfeel; powerful caramel and chocolate flavor, sweet; strong bitterness; the fruity side of the hops is very pleasant, with the resins it almost gives a light sour touch. The final has just a tad too much roasted malts. Excellent, one extreme, maybe chaotic example of black DIPA, but mostly appreciated.

SBWF 2010. Black beer with a beige head. Huge hoppy aroma, creamy and milky notes. Hoppy flavor, creamy, milky, grassy, perfume, bread and some toffee notes.

Rating #2 from danish beer festival 2010. Love this style! Its dark brown with a small brown head. The aroma has that lovely intense grabe aroma that i know so well from Simcoe/Nelson hops. Also has a little fresh sweet manderine, while the roasted notes are quite subdued. Heavy bitter flavor while still maintaining its fresh drinkability. Nice!

bottle, bought at the brewery. pours clear brown, settles deep maghoni red, with a very nice looking large offwhite lacing head. Looks Yummy. aroma of caramel, roasted malts and hops. somehow it seems like caramel dominates, which is a bit weird for a 200ibu beer. anyway. great aroma. flavor is roasted grains, tons of hops, licorice, dryness. In fact, this is actually pretty well tasting beer. Reminds me of hoppin’ frog bodalicious. palate is great, overall a very very nice iipa/impstout bastard beer :-). Probably tastes better than most iipa’s and most imp stouts. bumped overall to 18 from 17 while enjoying the beer. it’s awesome.
