COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Danish.

English: Take a good thing and make it even better – that’s the philosophy behind Double Black Mash. This huge Imperial Stout was easily big and potent enough after the first mashing, but we thought what the heck let’s give it another spin. So we mashed it in a second time doubling everything that was already good while aiming for great. All grain, heavy duty, no nonsense. Did we hit what we aimed at? Well, that’s really up to you to decide. If you like it big and black this for is your kinda beer for sure.

Ingredienser: Vand, Malte: Pilsner, Pale, Münchener, Roasted Barley, Cara-hell, Melanoidin, Light chocolate, Cara-aroma, Crystal og Black, Humle: Cascade og Chinook, Gær: US Ale

Black with dark brown thick head. Picked up notes of espresso, dark chocoloate and burned malt in the nose. Flavor was very intense with a thick mouthfeel. Oily and burned. Packed with burned malt, espresso, dark chocolate. All grain and boy does that work. Not a dextrose bomb like so many other high ABV stouts. Intense though balanced. Simply lovely - masterpiece!

Bottle: Poured a pitch-black color stout with a huge dark brown foamy head with excellent retention and some good amount of lacing. Aroma of roasted malt with some sweet notes and loads of black chocolate notes is very enticing. Taste is also dominated by loads of sweet residual sugar notes with some really nice black chocolate notes and quite a bit of residual sugar notes. Body is extremely full with good creamy texture and with good carbonation and almost no alcohol was apparent. Huge imperial stout with loads of flavours while retaining some good drinkability feature.

Bottle. Poured black with red edges and a brown head. Looks like an imperial stout! Smelt strongly of treacle, prunes and roasts. Tasted sweet and strong. Lovely!

Bottle. It pours a dense, finger-thick, light tan head over a black body. The aroma has a bit too much alcohol, but it’s lovely anyway. Treacle, roasted malts, coffee, dark chocolate and dark sugars. Alcohol, licorice, treacle, roasted malts, coffee and quite a lot of bitterness in the flavor. Pine cones too. Full body, warming and softly carbonated mouthfeel. Lasting finish with lots of goodyness. Rather nice this one, but it’s too warming, even though it’s at 12% ABV. 140815

My Bottom Line:
A deep interplay of black chocolate, roasted cereals, vanilla and molasses is justly enhanced by wooden hoppiness and alcohol warmth in this voluptuous dessert of an Imperial Stout.

Further Personal Perceptions:
-A sturdy head of foam covers the impenetrable blackness.
-Malt flavors are so rich and well expressed that it’s hard not to fall in love with them.
-The flavor profile gives exactly what was announced in the nose and on the label.
-Aftertaste is also quite roasty and espresso-like.
-Carbonation is just lively enough to let the seductive malts and residual sugars express themselves while making the mouthfeel not obese.

Bottle.
