COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION

English: When sunbeams reach the forest floor, when winter aconites and crocuses begin to blossom, and when young girls on bicycles in limited dresses pose traffic hazard for hormone bubbly young men with their eyes elsewhere than on the traffic, then you know for sure that spring has arrived! At this time of the year it is time for beer lovers to leave the heavy and dark beers in the fridge, and start looking for lighter beers. This “Spring Beer” from Amager Bryghus is a “Bière de Garde” type of beer, which is full of spicy flowers and pollen tones. Rich malt with notes of caramel and dry hopping ensure that the beer isn’t at all too sweet. Bière de Garde actually means "beer for storage" but never mind that we say as our “Spring Beer” must be enjoyed here and now. We dare you… you can hardly resist if you are as excited as we are that springtime has finally come!

Reddish brown amber colour, off-white head. Aroma of malt, caramel, fruity sweet, pepper, quite light and somewhat dusty. Hints of pollen and coriander seeds. Light bitter flavour, sweet malty touch. Sweet malty finish.
Not bad, but I’ve tasted better spring beers, and better bière de gardes.
(From 50cL bottle @ 2nd Tuesday tasting, De Molen, Bodegraven)

Bottle at monthly tasting @ de Molen, hosted by dEnk. Clear amber pour, solid white head. Aroma is spicy, pollen and a bit grassy. Flavor is dusty, pollen, flowers and honey. Quite off and a bit murky. Not my kind of brew.

UPDATED: APR 6, 2012 Bottle. Fruity, floral, earthy nose. Mouthfeel is weak, dry, some bitterness carried by pretty strong carbonation. Too light on the florals and whatnot to be refreshing.

Beautiful clear amber colored pour with tiny bubbles continually rising to the top. Creamy off-white head, foam-like. Slowly falls leaving a thick layer of creamy bubbles clinging to the sides of the glass. Big flowery aroma, hops, spices, malt, yeast, and a slight alcohol aroma. A bit too flowery, though. Flavor is of malt and spice. Peppery. Slightly bitter, sweet, and medium-bodied. Very nice example.

Never would have picked this as a BdG. Came across as a hoppy brown ale or a mild dubbel; tight and minerally. Opened up a little over time to reveal more typical spice and clove / aniseed. Quite mild mannered and elegant (and dry) so don’t expect to be slapped in the face with intensity.

Good creamy bitter Beire the guard with a soft texture. Should / can not be stored as long as it says on the label it would be a shame.
