COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION

English: When sunbeams reach the forest floor, when winter aconites and crocuses begin to blossom, and when young girls on bicycles in skimpy skirts pose traffic hazard for hormone bubbly young men with their eyes elsewhere than on the traffic, then you know for sure that spring has arrived! At this time of the year it is time for beer lovers to leave the heavy and dark beers in the fridge, and start looking for lighter beers. This “Spring Beer” from Amager Bryghus is a “Bière de Garde” type of beer, which is full of spicy flowers and pollen tones. Rich malt with notes of caramel and dry hopping ensure that the beer isn’t at all too sweet. Bière de Garde actually means "beer for storage" but never mind that we say as our “Spring Beer” must be enjoyed here and now. We dare you… you can hardly resist if you are as excited as we are that springtime has finally come!

Bottle from the local taphouse. Great beer, very hoppy. Aromas of caramel, flowers, grass, with hints of liquorice. Taste starts sweet, with bitterness taking over for a long dry finish. Palate is velvety, and medium bodied. Amber, with a frothy head.

500 ml bottle, batch #776, will soon be available at Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. ABV is 6.5%. Unfiltered and unpasteurised. Slightly hazy golden colour, moderate to low white head. Strong floral and herbal aroma, lovely. Refreshing flavour, some sweetness but not too much, herbal and floral notes throughout, a moderate but distinct hoppy bitterness in the finish and aftertaste. A really well made beer, might well be my favourite beer this spring and summer.

UPDATED: JUN 21, 2013 Re-rate, Bottle@Home, 3.9, June 21st 2013: Malty, grainy, light herbal and a hint of butter in the aroma. Yellow, fine white head, very nice lace. Sweet, malty, bitter, herbal, floral. Soft, full, light warming. Flavourful, balanced. Very well done, different yet still according to the style. Bottle@Home, 3.1, May 24th 2010: Too complex for a spring beer IMO. Lot’s of spices and herbs or other stuff, I don’t really know what it was. Went down easy at first but when warming up a little it was too overwhelming.

50cl bottle, served in Duvel cup. Pours clear copper with medium beige frothy head. Aroma is pretty much candy-like with fruits added. Really nice taste: sweet maltiness, honey, toasty notes, and pleasant earthy hops. Dry finish. Medium body, perfect carbonation. Very refreshing and enjoyable.

From a 500ml bottle on 9/12/2012 (batch number 348, BB 02/2013, shared with Butz - thanks). Pours a cloudy light amber with a smallish head. Has a distict floral aroma with the pollen and honey particularly prominent, along with some caramel notes. The flavour is sweet caramel, honey and some citrus fruits (particularly orange), as well as quite a bit of mango and apricot. This is balanced by some nice, dry hoppy bitterness at the back. A very nice, rather unusual beer.
