English: People with great knowledge of the craft beer business told us that storytelling is half the pleasure of drinking expensive beer. So we asked a local historian to dig into the location of Amager Bryghus. And to say the least, we were thrilled to discover that our brewhouse is located next to an old water hole on the historic trash trail across Amager. Since ancient time our ancestors have quenched their thirst right here while transporting their rubbish to the famous trash pits of Amager. Likewise is the Buffalo Trace Destillery in Frankfort, Kentucky located on what was once an ancient buffalo crossing on the banks of the Kentucky River. Thus history blends together beautifully – from Amager to Kentucky. We hope you’ll enjoy how we in this special edition of Hr. Frederiksen blends strong black beer with some of the best quality Bourbon ever made.

(50 cl bottle from the brewery; Batch #355 BBD: January 2018) Pours black with tan, quickly receding head. Decent regeneration. Aroma is wet oak and bourbon with some booze upfront that fades leaving notes of fruits like prune and plum. Soft carbonation, full body, oily texture and a leathery finish. Taste follows the flavour with some added caramel. Girlfriend says: "it’s less tasty than the Pride."

Bottled. Pours black with an average tan head. Aroma of roasted malts, coffee, vanilla, wood andchocolate notes. Sweet flavor that ends up dry and slightly bitter with some alcohol. Medium bodied, oily texture and flat to soft carbonation. A very nice Impy.

Bottle... Pours dark brown (nearly black) with a small, creamy, mushroom-colored head. The aroma is fruity and almost perfumey, furnishing notes of dark berries and deep roastiness. Full-bodied with a silky mouthfeel and adequate carbonation. The roasty flavor offers chocolate, boozy liquor, dark berries and charcoal. Finishes with moderate bitterness and burnt, carbonic notes. Dries out. Bottle courtesy of Plovmand!

Bottle from backlog. Black with a light brown head. Aroma: bourbon, grape juice, ripe red apples, chocolate. Taste: bourbon, sweet licorice, fruits and berries, wood, milk chocolate. Quite full-bodied. The regular version is a favourite, but this unfortunately didn’t meet my very high expectations. Still nice of course.

UPDATED: AUG 11, 2014 50cl bottles from a collector, aged at least 3 years. Never released in its home country (DK), this special edition of the famous Hr. Frederiksen pours black with medium foam and nice lacing. Explosive Bourbon aroma : so lovely! Mead, dark honey, booze, wood, dark chocolate, marzipan, malt and an overal mild soury aged character. Sticky Bourbon aftertaste that lingers on in the mouth. Very, very nice!

Bottle from Mane Liquor. Pours pitch black with a sinisterly dark head. Nose is loaded with bourbon and spice. Smells as though the bourbon won’t be holding back at all. Taste emphasises that with heavy bourbon and vanilla while it finishes with huge spice and mild peppery dark chocolate. It’s all about the bourbon here and it works well. I like it a lot. Massive sipper. Reminds me of a toned down, restrained Mikkeller black fist. Tasty

500 ml bottle @ Cardinal. Black body with a small tan head. Aroma has black malt and coffee with wood, but the bourbon really dominates here in a boozy way. Flavor is quite nice, sweet dark, mild roasted malt, nice roasted, coffee, chocolate, balanced bitterness and wood, but again the alcoholic bourbon flavor takes over too much. Fine body and the bourbon almost feels sticky in the aftertaste after a while. Definitively a beer for sipping and charring in smaller amounts, nothing against bourbon flavored stouts, but this is simply too much for me in the long run – at least for a whole bottle. I felt lucky to also have the original Hr. Fredriksen at the table.

Bottle at Hoppy pub Thessaloniki. Black color with almost no head. Alcohol in the aroma, along with roasted malts and chocolate. Alcoholic taste, bourbon and chocolate again.

Bottle. Pours completely black with a beige head that dissipates fast. Aroma of roasted coffee, malt and faint traces of Bourbon. Taste has the same flavours as the original Hr. Frederiksen, but in this one the hops aren’t as noticeable - which in my opinion is a good thing as that is one aspect of the original I’m not crazy about. Nowever, the one has clear notes of wood and bourbon that takes a moment to kick in...but then stays in the aftertaste for quite a while. Barrel aged, yes, but more round and less metallic in the taste than such beers often are. Another good thing. Body is above medium (but maybe I’m just getting too used to beers like this). ;-) To summarize: quite good and IMHO better than the "normal" version of this beer,

Bottle from Systembolaget. Roasted smell with chocolate and bourboun. Similar taste with lots of bourboun. It’s almost like they just added a dash of bourboun to the beer.
