Nyd Hr. Frederiksen – Swedish style.

I denne udgave fremstår Hr. Frederiksen stadig i denne version. Rødvinen runder eller opbløder ingenlunde øllet, men tilføjer blot en diskret ekstra dimension.

Bottle... Pours pitch black with a small, tight, khaki head. The woody, chocolaty bouquet also offers mild notes of oloroso sherry and lactic acid . Full-bodied and creamy with modest carbonation. The flavor is an intermingling of unsweetened chocolate, hearty red wine and toasted oak. Moderately bitter, chocolaty finish. Bottle courtesy of Plovmand!

Aroma: Smelling of toast, dark roasted coffee beans, sour red fruits and dark chocolate.
Appearance: A black brown brew, a tan head that leaves good lacing, good curtains.
Taste: A sweet dark bread taste, toast, red dried fruits, dark espresso and chocolate. Sour wood.
Palate: Little carbonation, smooth, thick and sticky, a big body.
Overall: Still not a bad stout, but the wine cask does not improve it.
Note: Bottle 250 ml (Batch 300). Reviewed 2012-08-06.

330mL thanks to anders37 at Woodshop 7. Muddy brune pour. Low carbonation. Weak bubbles. Nose is sweeter tomato paste and red bell pepper. Sweet and savory. Dark chocolate mole and hot pepper come through as it decants. Taste is weaker, tannic, dry, oaky, a bit bland, powdery. Lemon tea and oak through the finish.

Bottle: Thanks Papsø: Batch 300: Small to medium cherry brown head, which disappears very slow and leaves a little open lacing on top of a black colored beer. Smell subtle red wine, wood and yeasty imperial stout notes. Very subtle, very smooth. There are also some slight hints of rose, a hint of red fruit like berries and cherries, some light tar, a hint of bbq smoke kind of notes and some roasted burned barley malts, wood and herbs. Taste is very nice, toffee, caramel, chocolate, hopjes vla, some yeasty wood notes, some hints of red fruit in smoked barrels, some smokes hay, light creamy, some nice but dry roasted malts, wood, herbs and than it turns into a not somgood aftertaste. The beer and it’s taste are interesting, the aftertaste seems to be something else. The aftertaste is both sweet and bitter with a more bitter and intense dry coal red wine touch. The irritating nasty ish malts and the dry wood/oak notes make it a beer with a different, dry and naaty bitter aftertaste with nothing of the body left as it was previous in the taste. Low carbo, soft close to silky ish mouthfeel, full body and a creamy texture. There seems to be something lacking a bit in this beers body... As well as some nasty malts and nasty dry wood tones in the aftertaste.. The rest is absolutely decent.

UPDATED: JUL 20, 2012 (PE 2022) Musta olut pienellä ruskealla vaahdolla. Suutuntuma on reilun keskitäyteläinen, maku huomioon ottaen melko liru. Tuoksultansa hieno, mutta maultansa turhan terävä. Great nose, but taste way too sharp.

Bottle from Systembolaget in Nordstan, Gothenburg. Pours a thick black body with a medium off-white head. Aroma is simply astonishing: strong red wine tones with woody vanilla, licorice, leather and hints of dark chocolate and coffee. The red wine aroma is a killer match for the rest, and this is one of those beers I’m almost reluctant to go into as I might as well sit and sniff it instead. Then again, it’s meant for drinking so down it goes. :-) Roasty chocolate first, then strong red wine tannins which are tasty but almost unbalanced. In addition, the barrel aging gives off strong woody notes with oaky hints of vanilla and something resembling...tomatoes? My mind is boggling with this brew! :-P Sharp tannins and coffee appears again, before a silky smooth leathery finish takes it all home. Smooth palate, medium carbonation. A very nice and interesting beer from Amager, definitely worth acquiring.

Huge thick creamy light brown color head that mostly lasted and left lovely lacing in the glass. Pitch black color. Aroma of wood, hard roasted malt, dried fruit, chocolate, liquorish and light red wine. Over the palate came warming alcohol with roasted malt, liquorish, dried fruit, chocolate and some dry wood like feel. Full bodied with a soft carbonation and thick dry texture. Moderated to heavy sweet flavor with good counter bitterness. Lingering red wine and liquorish finish with the roasted malty feel at the very end. Great variation of a fantastic beer.

Bottle. Black with a light brown head. Aroma: chocolate, licorice, buttery red wine. Taste: chocolate, licorice, soy sauce, oak, red onions, red wine dryness, red berries. Full-bodied. Well balanced, the aging has removed the edges and the heavier flavours from the original Hr. Frederiksen, and has added quite a subtle touch of red wine. That doesn’t improve on the original (where for the record I love those edges) but this is a nice version all the same.

pilsnerrogge (2643) - Finspång, SWEDEN - JUN 29, 2012
Dark brown colour. Firm head. Aroma is a smooth blend of red berries, red wine, oak casks, smoke, roasted malt, vanilla and licorice. Flavour is dominated by vinous notes of red wine and oak casks. Some roasted malt in the background leading to a warming finish. The aroma was more interesting than the flavour.

Heavy red wine smell. Oak wine taste.sweet red grapes. It would have been better with less wine taste.
