Commercial Description:
Bitterhed: 81 IBU

English: When poured into the glass you will instantly sense that Hr. Frederiksen is a gentleman with both potency and a huge personality. Dark as Hr. Frederiksen’s humour, this imperial stout is inspired by the American imperial stouts with its dense and creamy light brown head that leaves nice lacings in the glass while the head reluctantly dissipates. We are willing to admit that we went crazy with the malts in this beer. A massive 8 different types of malts were used, and it is the dark and heavily roasted ones that give the beer its colour and almost extreme full body - this is almost a meal in a bottle. The bitterness is also delivered by the heavily roasted malts backed up by the American Centennial hops. Oh yes, Hr. Frederiksen is an experience which should be enjoyed slowly, but in return he will last all night warming you with his alcohol and challenging charm.
We have named this beer after a good friend, without whom, Amager Bryghus would not be what it is today.

500 ml bottle courtesy of mreusch. Pours very dark brown with a large fluffy tan head. The aroma is roasted dark malts, dark chocolate, some dark fruits, licorice with hints of alcohol. The flavor is heavy roasted dark malts, dark chocolate, some black coffee like bitterness but at the same time moderate sweetness associated with dark fruits. The finish has some earthy bitterness with the roast malts. Medium-full bodied. I had been waiting to try this one for some time and it was worth the wait.

bottle. oily pour. black. almost no bubbles under a small creamy brown head. chocolate ice cream aroma. milk chocolaty flavor with heavy roast and licorice accents. a faint dusty musty hop flavor lingers behind everything. another high quality stout from denmark.

Dark black which probably won’t come as a surprise to anyone. It smells roasty, very malty, almost smoky, not bad. The flavor is dead on American style RIS, roasty, fruity, vinous but somehow not spectacular. This could easily have come out of an American brewery but for the price I’ll have to choose the American alternative. Serving type: bottle Reviewed on: 02-02-2010 03:49:21

Bottle shared by MrPickles...thanks Andy! - Pours deep and dark with a small tan head. Boozy and sharp on the nose, with a nice balance of sweet and roasty and a nice herbal hop smell. Tastes roasty and smooth with coffee and vanilla notes. More dry than sweet, the roasty finish mingles with some floral, perfumy hops. Smooth and grainy in the mouth, like really fine coffee grounds. I’d like to try this again, but I wasn’t blown away by my first taste.

Bottle thanks Rciesla for sharing. Black pour with tan head. Roasted, coffee, dark, malts, fruit on the nose. Dark fruits, coffee aftertaste, warming apparent but not overwhelming for 10.5%.

17 ounce bottle. Pours a thick pure opaque black with a fluffy milk-chocolate head. Another bad ass looking impy from Scandanavia. Aroma has some awesome sweet chocolate, coffee too, along with some licorice/anise, then hot cocoa. Lovely aroma. Flavor is pretty conventional for the style, but deliciously well-made: Coffee, espresso oils, sweet chocolate, mild hoppiness towards the end. Perfect mouthfeel; medium carbonation, higher viscosity. Chocolate lingers in the soulful warming finish. Damn, this stuff is good. It’s so tasty yet so elegant; not contrived or forceful, making you come back on your own for sip after heavenly sip. Damn near perfect. I’m simply stunned, elated. Overall, world class +. (Proper respect and gratitude to Amager.)

Bottled. Big light brown cap. Aroma is roasted malts and caramel. Full body, very malty. Although the massive malt presence, i felt a bit the bitter flavour of hops, bitter in the end then. Well balanced.

Bottle. Pours black with a two finger brown head. Aroma was rich with roasted coffee, chocolate, dark malts and had a hint of licorice. Flavor was well-balanced and moderately sweet with dark bitter chocolate, coffee, dark roasted malts and some light alcohol with a smooth and oily thick body. Excellent imp stout
