Commercial Description:
Bitterhed: 81 IBU

English: When poured into the glass you will instantly sense that Hr. Frederiksen is a gentleman with both potency and a huge personality. Dark as Hr. Frederiksen’s humour, this imperial stout is inspired by the American imperial stouts with its dense and creamy light brown head that leaves nice lacings in the glass while the head reluctantly dissipates. We are willing to admit that we went crazy with the malts in this beer. A massive 8 different types of malts were used, and it is the dark and heavily roasted ones that give the beer its colour and almost extreme full body - this is almost a meal in a bottle. The bitterness is also delivered by the heavily roasted malts backed up by the American Centennial hops. Oh yes, Hr. Frederiksen is an experience which should be enjoyed slowly, but in return he will last all night warming you with his alcohol and challenging charm.
We have named this beer after a good friend, without whom, Amager Bryghus would not be what it is today.
Bitterness: 81 IBU

500ml. this gorgeous black beauty fills my glass with its rich and roasty self creating a one finger mocha colored head. an intensely roasty aroma raises from the glass leaving the impression of prunes, plums, freshly ground coffee, licorice and such. very smooth lush and creamy mouthfeel. a little sticky on the back side but i would expect a little of that from a brew this big. very roasty with a better than anticipated bitterness. flavor is much like the nose. a terrific example of the style. a swirl of the glass leaves some impressive lace on the sides of the glass. an interesting mint-like taste is left on the tongue and lingers long before disappearing. glad i had the chance to try this one!

Batch nr: 05; Bottle 364/400

9/09/2009: Amager Hr. Frederiksen... Aroma: Bitter dark chocolate, hints of black plum, mineral-like. Appearance: Near black with a decent brown-colored head. Flavor: Rich and robust semi-dark chocolate roasted malts, undertones of coffee and a mild to moderate bitterness, nutty?, some alcohol in the nose; improving as it warms and breathes... Palate: Medium-full; almost smooth, but not quite. Overall: Pretty good, but nothing overly special (sad to say).

50 cl. bottle (Bitterhed: 80+ IBU; Ufiltreret, upasteuriseret; Alc 10,5% vol.) shared by alexdad06. Thanks Brad! Rating #326 for this beer.

22oz - Aroma of ashy burnt malts, dark chocolate, more dark malts and a touch of orange hops. Flavor is very smooth for a 10.5% brew. Like the expensive dark cocao with orange peel in it. Lots of roasted dark malts. Palate is creamy and incredibly smooth. A unique and super tasty imperial stout.

22oz bottle. Pours a pure black color with a thick beige head- looks great. The aroma is interesting; sweet chocolates, a noticeable sour roasted flavor that fits perfectly. A initial flavor of intense sour roasted flavors that mix with citrus hops to form a awesome flavor, lots of chocolates and cocoa as well. Finished with a long lingering roasted bitterness- like very dark chocolates. Very good. A nice take on the style.

A wonderful nose of tobacco, sugars and chocolate. Taste is equally amazing, with notes of coffee, liquorish and oak. Finish is spicy, metallic and bitter. This is the way I want my Imperial Stout! Not too salty, bitter or roasted, but smooth, complex and sweet. Maybe I’m rating this too high, but what the heck - I’ve got 4 more bottles in the cellar so we’ll see if the next one is as good as I’ve rated it.

Bottle shared by alexsdad06. Poured dark brown color with an average frothy brown head that mostly lasted with excellent lacing. Moderate to heavy roasted malt, chocolate, woody and small alcohol aroma. Medium to full body with a smooth texture and flat carbonation. Medium to heavy roasted sweet flavor with a medium to heavy bittersweet finish of moderate to long duration. A standout brew.
