English: ”I rate – therefore I am”. These very few words were for many years the simple governing rule for Hr. Papsø to live by. For years he would seek out exotic and faraway places like Onetaka, Windischeschenbach, San Diego – yes even Køge – in his constant quest for the holy grail: that perfect beer. What started as a way of spending time while being romatically involved with a certain girl at a youth hostel in Newcastle, NSW turned into a 25 year long passion of rating every beer he encountered. With his faithful companinon – Mr. Pink – and his set of gold coated tasting thimbles always ready for action Hr. Papsø has now reached 25.000 ratings on the world’s most renowned beer rating portal www.ratebeer.com. And that for sure calls for a beer to celebrate. “Hr. Papsø In Black” is such a beer combining three of the things Hr. Papsø really loves in a beer: that cool darkness, a fresh and crisp dryhopping and high drinkability. Be calm – be cool. Enjoy.

Firm brown with a decent film tan fur of a head. Rich red berry and charred hops. Easy going crisp, tight hoppy and wee bit dry pithy. Firmly sweet tight carbonation, foamy ice cream coke float finish. Got better as it got warmer/sedimentiery.

Bottle, BeerMoth, November Tasting.

Bottle. Huge thick creamy light brownish head that really lasted. Dark mahogany color. Excellent lacework left in the glass. Light chocolate, hint of roasted malt, citrus, grass, floral and light fruity notes. Over the palate came smoke, light dark chocolate, roasted malt, citrus, grass and floral hoppy notes. Medium bodied with an average carbonation and light dry texture. Light bitter and sweet flavor in harmony. Lingering light roasted and bitter hoppy finish. Excellent beer.

On tap at Cardinal, Stavanger. Pours black with a small creamy tanned head. Aroma of dark fruits, roasted malts, liquorice and grapefruit. Taste is intense roasty and hoppy, tar and bitter chocolate, lots of bittering hops. Tasty and crisp, very good beer.

Keg@CBC2013, poured by man himself Dark, almost opaque black color, steady brown head. Grassy, sweaty hoppy aroma. Medium-bodied. Very hoppy, citric flavor with some sweetier caramel in the background. Decent, hoppy-dominated version of the style.

500ml bottle. Pours an opaque black, with lots of floating sediment and a huge beige head, which lasts very well and leaves good lacing. Pine resin hops, mild black coffee and roasty malt make up the aroma. Pine needle hops up front lead through a touch of plum to a blend of roasty malt and black coffee in the mid-palate. Mild citrus hops keep the finish fairly clean. This could perhaps do with a little more by way of hops, to put it properly into black IPA territory, but on the whole it is pretty good.

In bottiglia. Colore scura impenetrabile, schiuma fine, abbondante e persistente.Aroma di tostato, erbaceo, citrico, erba appena tagliato, a seguire fruttato e liquirizia in modo armonico. Al palato ancora tostatura e liquirizia poi finale vegetale, esotico, pompelmo. Birra molto armonica e beverina, ottimo esempio dello stile.

11/12/12/11/10/11
