COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION A note from Papsoe: some bottles seem to develop excessive carbonation hence please chill well and open Hr. Papsø over the kitchen sink with a glass closeby!
Hr.
English: This beer is named after our good friend, Mr. Henrik Papsoe, who has reached 10,000 ratings this year at www.ratebeer.com. Mr. Papsoe reflects sweetness and those who have had the pleasure of meeting him have found to their cost that he is sweet, obliging, and solid, yet also complex. He is to be enjoyed in small quantities, but nevertheless his alcohol and generous nature is a delight to be warmed by. Even though Mr. Papsoe is soft, he can easily be aged. Due to long-time aging on barrels, Mr. Papsoe has notes of vanilla, bourbon, and wood. One of the ingredients is a special produced dark Muscovado syrup, which provides him with his full body and sweetness. If you have a sweet tooth that you happily fill with sweets, this beer is particularly well-suited. Well, actually we would claim that we have filled adult candy onto bottles.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20 sayravai (4548) - Helsinki, FINLAND - SEP 13, 2008
(Draught) Darkish red-amber with a smallish, lasting head. Very mild aroma when cool with vegetably-grainy maltiness and hints of diacetyl. Aroma smooths out when warmer, and even presents some sour notes (or maybe I got used to it), with some oakiness. Glue-solventy flavor with dried fruit, (straw)berries, sweet-sticky maltiness, and hints of alcohol. Very full, sticky-syrupy body with low carbonation. Nothing to do with (Belgian) quadrupel, and not very enjoyable.
4.7 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 19/20 Grovlam (4108) - Copenhagen, DENMARK - SEP 13, 2008
UPDATED: SEP 15, 2008 [EBF @ Copenhagen, September 2008] Congratulations to Hr. Papsø and the Amager Bryghus crew for creating this amazing and very unique one of a kind beer! Average fizzy white head that mostly lasted. Good display of lacework. Cloudy to almost muddy dark amber color, depending on how the beer is being poured into the glass. (I like it muddy….he he). The complexity of the aroma was unbelievable where the heavy notes of a classic Quadrupel with a lovely subtly touch of Bourbon character, add to the already complex nature of this wonderful beer. For me this is by far the best beer Amager Bryghus has produced so far. Over the palate came notes of dry wood, raisins, prune juice, vanilla, mild touch of alcohol. Very full bodied with an average to almost lively carbonation which added to the complex feel you got from this beer. Texture was thick and warming alcoholic in a subtly way. Heavy sweet flavor but with a perfect balance of bitterness from the hops. Lingering heavy sweet Bourbon fruity warming alcoholic finish. Wow that makes me want to cry of happiness.
4.1 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 Papsoe (22946) - Frederiksberg, DENMARK - SEP 13, 2008
(Bottle 25 cl) First of all I’d like to thank Amager Bryghus for making this beer – it’s almost a dream come true. My warmest thanks goes out to Jacob, Morten, Tanja and wee Emma.
The beer pours a warm dark and slightly hazy amber with a tall, dense and very lively off-white head that turns deliciously creamy as it slowly dissipates. The aroma has some caramel, but first of all soft and smooth notes of oak and vanilla from the bourbon barrel. Considering the alcohol the body is surprisingly only medium with plenty of caramel and a very warming alcohol in the finish perfectly balanced by a whiff of hops that prevents the beer from becoming cloying. As it warms this beer becomes a most delicious sipper perfectly suited for those chilly nights. Cheers! 110908
