COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A note from Papsoe: some bottles seem to develop excessive carbonation hence please chill well and open Hr. Papsø over the kitchen sink with a glass closeby!

Hr.

English: This beer is named after our good friend, Mr. Henrik Papsoe, who has reached 10,000 ratings this year at www.ratebeer.com. Mr. Papsoe reflects sweetness and those who have had the pleasure of meeting him have found to their cost that he is sweet, obliging, and solid, yet also complex. He is to be enjoyed in small quantities, but nevertheless his alcohol and generous nature is a delight to be warmed by. Even though Mr. Papsoe is soft, he can easily be aged. Due to long-time aging on barrels, Mr. Papsoe has notes of vanilla, bourbon, and wood. One of the ingredients is a special produced dark Muscovado syrup, which provides him with his full body and sweetness. If you have a sweet tooth that you happily fill with sweets, this beer is particularly well-suited. Well, actually we would claim that we have filled adult candy onto bottles.

Bottle. Thanks to Enjoyit. Pours a clear ruby brown with a beige head. Aroma is dry and wine-like with notes of horse blanket and bitter hazel nuts. As it warms, it becomes fruity with notes of plums ,and the alcohol stands out. Flavour has a short note of pear initially, but this is soon overshadowed by the big body. Very sweet, but not cloying. Fruit, plums. Maybe a bit of sherry notes. Oak tree/bourbon as it warms. Dry finish with stingy alcohol and bitterness. Bitter hazel nuts. Too much carbonation. Not easily drinkable but a very interesting beer. 25-09-08.

Draught@EBF2008. Slightly hazy rubyish brown colour with mediumsized off-white head. Aroma is dark fruits, licorice, roasted malts as well as some slight notes of barrel aging (vanilla, oak, bourbon). Flavour is the same in a quite pleasant balance. At EBF I decided to rate this as #6000, since señor Papsoe is a very nice trader and also a really good guy in person. This one goes out to you Henrik! Cheers .)

Tap at EBF: Hazy to muddy amber with a small creamy head. Warming, sticky, smooh & vinous. Oak/wood & vanilla. Bourbon & dried fruits. Feels a bit more like a Barley Wine really! Nevertheless very nice!

Draught at EBF, poured by Hr. Papsø. Strong alcohol flavour, sweet, but with a lot of hops. Vionous, sherry, raisins, a fine smokiness that’s not too dominating. Murky brown.

Tap @ EBF, 2008, Carlsberg.
Pours muddy brown with a small, creamy, off-white head. Aroma has lots of oak, toffee, roasted malts and fruitiness. Fine low carbonation, nice creamy mouthfeel. Flavour has oak, light tartness, alcohol, toffee, caramel and light dry hoppiness. Just a tad too sharp. This surely feels much more like a Barley Wine than an Abt. But the base beer surely is (see my rating of Little Grumpy Man), so the barrel aging really detracts a lot of good qualities from the beer. Too bad that this is commercially realeased and the other isn’t. Still, this is a very nice BW :o)
