HogTownHarry (3922), Toronto (Harbourfront), Ontario, Canada Oct 30, 2009 Bottle ( 500ml ). Shared by with blankboy and garthicus - via trade with glouglouburp. Oily-looking thick black pour with a solid lasting creamy fairly dark brown head. My palate was in need of a kick-start; this did it - aroma was oily, nutty, almost burnt, hint of dark fruit - plenty of dry roast goodness and alcohol - not a shy beer. The taste followed - dry, deep, dark roasty, alcohol, with prune and a hint of soya sauce. Slick, fairly thick, boozy-bitter burnt mouthfeel - a nice strong impy, just what the doc ordered at this point in the tasting. MrChopin (620), Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA Oct 29, 2009 Bottle thanks to Glouglouburp! Jet black with a foamy, dark tan head gives lacing deluxe. Tons of dark fruit in the nose, also lightly burnt malt, licorice, and alcohol. The licorice is quite strong in the flavor, coupling nicely with the dark malt and light touches of alcohol. Thin, roasty palate, lightly sticky and very salty in the finish. Good beer, the varied dark fruits in the nose and licorice-roasted malt coupling in the flavor both being uniquely well-done. garthicus (1215), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Oct 28, 2009 Thanks to HogTownHarry for sharing. Appearance: Pitch black, big frothy brown creamy head. Aroma: Alcohol, coffee, chocolate, milk, spice, vanilla and cream. Nice. Flavour: Dusty malt, sharp alcohol and bitter chocolate, quite a bitter brew with a long bitter finish. ChrisThomson (374), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Oct 21, 2009 Bottle. Black with small tan head. Aroma of big roated coffee. Creamy body. Complexity, sweet malts, and lots of lingering bitterness. jesperhammer (260), Copenhagen, Denmark Oct 11, 2009 10-OCT-2009, bottle @home.
High head, pitch black. Very roasted nose. Meaty, coffee, and high high hoppy bitterness.
Very rich and creamy, high carbonation. Fantastic beer. TrefwoordPunk (549), Leiden, Netherlands Sep 24, 2009 Bottle 50 cl. Pours pitch black with a small tan head and an aroma f sweet roasted malts, caramel, chocolate, mocca, vanilla and some hops. The taste is complex, with notes of sweet malts, roastiness, very strong coffee, bitter hops and yeast. A nice bitter and roasty finish. Impressing stout, SaintMatty (1195), Tallinn, Estonia Sep 10, 2009 500ml Bottle (Thanks Svesse) - Black with a tan head. Chocolate and chocolate cake and coffee in the aroma. The taste is rich with strong notes of coffee and chocolate along with some hops, roasted malt and a pleasant bitterness. The finish is a nicely balanced and smooth combination of bitterness with some roasted elements with more notes of coffee and chocolate standing out. Allen (1282), Switzerland Sep 6, 2009 Bottled 50cl. Pitch black. Surprisingly tall beige head. Vanilla, marshmallows, faint mushrooms and slight reminiscence of Port Brewing Old Viscosity in the nose. Too harsh, due to the fact this beer is too yeasty and bitter (without having a pronounced distinct hop character) at the same time. Sourish. Full bodied alright. Good hop profile. Roasted malt and strong coffe in the finish. Nice. Not a lot of subtlety though.
