COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION

Bottle thanks to savnac: poured a black brown with a fast dissipating off white head. Sweet malts and dark sticky fruits. Taste is roasted malts, hints I fig and caramel. Finish is dry.

500 ml bottle from Ryan and Casey Liquors Greenfield, MA. Trappist glass shows a deep brown color. Nose is pleasant aroma of malt, dates, plums, and an Earthy malt. Tastes of toffee, hops, dried dark fruits, candi sugar, and raisins. Big dark fruit notes. Earthy taste lingers slightly. Carbonation is nearly gone at this point. Still really nice Dubbel.

Bottle. Brown in color with a medium beige head. Aroma of figs, caramel/toffee, spicy Belgian yeast esters and mild alcohol. Taste is sweet dark fruits and toffee with some light tart yeast and roast. Medium body with soft carbonation. Nice beer, has held up fairly well with age.

The aroma is rather strait froward with a toasted malt porter profile of coffee and chocolate. The appearance is dark brown with a medium head that falls. The taste is like the aroma. The palate is thin. Overall not too much about this beer says seasonal special.

From a bottle poured a murky brown with little to no head. Aroma best described as dank. No wonder they called Hamlet the melancholy Dane! This holiday ale seems truly uninspired as these types go.

2008 bottle from Louisville Beer store. Didn’t even realize the date when I bought it. Black body, thin head. Sweet abbey dubbel. Nice raisin aroma and taste. Dark fruit type of thing. Good.

Bottle from City Beer. Pours very dark brown with a beige, transient, fizzy head. Aroma of dark malt, chocolate and dark fruit. Full bodied. Flavor is dark fruit, chocolate/treacle and dark roast malt. Finishes balanced with sweet and mild bitter. Think the bitter is from malt. Pleasant drink.

Pours cloudy dark brown with a thin tan head. Notes of pepper, dark fruit, toffee, ripe fruits, dusty and phenolic. Medium to full bodied with soft carbonation.

Countbeer (2920) - Best of Eindhoven ohne Brauhaus, NETHERLANDS - DEC 31, 2011
Bottle: Vintage 2008: batch # 137 A small brown head which turns into a brown lacing fairly quick and then it disappears completely. The pour is dark brown ruby but when it all ends in the glass it becomes a murky brown colored beer. Smell (christmas) spices, brown sticky toasted malts, dried prunes,  wood, hints of toffee and caramel and slight hints of liquorice and earthy nuts. Taste is a bit boozy at first but when it reached the correct temperature and settlements it becomes a nicely balanced beer with darker ingredients, but in no way does it become something like a stout. The structure and texture are full in every way and well balanced. Taste light liquorice (not too strong like some impy’s) which is well balanced with earthy tones. There are some spices like vanilla, pepper, custard, some toasted/light smoked malts, toasted herbs and hint of roasted wood and dried darker fruits. Low to medium carbo, soft mouthfeel, full body and a light creamy texture. A beer that went well during it’s time cellared. Curious if it would have became any better over more/the years. Good brew!

500ml bottle in a shaker. Pours very deep brown with a lacy, beige head. Aroma.of caramel malts, some hints of chocolate, spicy yeast, lightly roasted malts, and some light hops. Flavor about the same, with a lot of everything. Smooth texture. A really good beer.
