Danish: Hidsig American Barleywine.

English: Brewed to celebrate the second offspring of one of the owners of Ølbaren, this American Barleywine has a fierce bitterness from excessive use of hops.

30-OCT-2014, bottle @Papsø smagning, @Amager Bryghus. Hazy Brown with almost no head. Aroma is very nice with fruit and spice. Taste is herbal, very malty, bread and an unpleasant bitrterness. Still carbonation in this one. Really a nice experience. Thx. Papsø for sharing this vintage brew:-)

Flaske, uklar beige, næsten intet skum. Næsen mere frisk end 1’eren. Maltet, men ikke bozzy. Karamel, nødder, tørrede frugter - og humle. Lidt gran, lidt tropiske frugter. Lakrids-noter i munden. Sød, klistret, hamrende bitter, stadigvæk. Vibrerende.

Unlabelled 50 cl bottle with an Amager cap, likely about 2 years old. Cloudy dark brown with beige froth. Nose is bubblegum, candi, orange peel, plum and grass. Medium body with a tingle. Taste is raisin, caramel, faint bitter chocolate and faded grapefruit hops. Nice depth of sweetness countered by bitter citrus, slightly metallic. Obviously quite hoppy once but now nicely melded.

On tap at Ølbaren. It pours a clear, dark brown to copper body under a dense, creamy, beige head leaving lacings. The aroma is nutty and caramel-ish, with some alcohol. Dusty, piney hops and some raisins too. Caramel, roasted malts and resiny hops in the flavor, lasting for a really long time. Smooth, warming and full-bodied. A pleasant and tasteful beer, indeed. 110527

Draught at Ølbaren, Copenhagen
Hazy dark amber color, with red shades, and a creamyhead. It has a very strong aroma, yeast and cheese over all; maybe malt and hops too, but really hidden. At least the flavor brings us immediately in the realm of American Strong Ales or American Barley Wines; the first evident difference is that this beer is actually quite smooth, silky, even with its superpowers; there is an almost overwhelming flavor of malt, caramel, roasted malts and hops; chocolate comes to mind, liquorice is present too (and rather evident); quite amazingly there is a very hidden strawberry note; the cheesy impression is also there, candi sugar and a generic fruity touch too. The final is extreme, the mouth is almost burning for the extreme hops, nevertheless the mouthfeel is velvety till the last drop. Interesting, very good.

On tap, shared with Yngwie and Gunnfryd @ Ølbaren, Copenhagen. Deep bronze body, big creamy off-white head. Aroma is toffee, sweet malts and hints of nuts. Taste is sweet malts, wood with hints of strawberries and roasted caramel. Bitter, earthy hop tones get in the mix towards the end of the palate. Very nice.
