COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION

English: When the best little liquor store in Chicago asks you to make them a celebration beer, it’s an honor you simply cannot refuse. West Lakeview Liquors has been owned and run by the Bozic family for 25 years, and that indeed calls for something unique and different. Our signature Imperial Stout, Hr. Frederiksen, has always been a popular beer in the store. And with that beer as a base, master brewer John Laffler from Off Color Brewing - and longtime friend of both Amager Bryghus and West Lakeview Liquors - was given free hands to add his very personal touch. The result is this collaboration: “Gnädige Frau - Marshmallow Stout” - combining a trademark Danish beer with the very American campfire treat a s’more. The name of the beer is a tribute to Kristina Bozic, the current owner of West Lakeview Liquors who personally and enthusiastically took part in the brewing here at Amager Bryghus, slicing vanilla beans and marshmallows and crushing graham crackers with a meat hammer! A sweet and unique lady requires a very special beer. We believe “Gnädige Frau” to be exactly that. Enjoy!

Bottle with James and Dad. Pitch black with a decent tan head. Huge sugary aroma, molasses, toffee, roast malt. Flavour is deeply sweet, chocolate, some roast malt, vanilla. It leaves a rather sugary impression with only a little bitterness. It’s kind of smoky and increasingly toward the caramel side of the sweet spectrum--I love it.

Bottle sample at a tasting at the Beer & Beyond shop. Thanks Ariel. Very black with brownish-golden head. Sweet, some raspberry, some chocolate and then phenol in the nose. Sweetish taste, then bitter, then a little petroleum-like in the mouth. Smooth, full-bodied, long, a little sweet, like chocolate cake with raspberry sauce finish.

Bottle: Poured a pitch-black color stout with a nice large foamy head with good retention and some lacing. Aroma of deep black chocolate malt with some marshmallow notes clearly identifiable. Taste is also dominated by deep black chocolates notes with lactose which offset most of the roasted malt notes and some marshmallow. Body is full with nice creamy texture and good carbonation with no apparent alcohol. This beer is a novelty for sure but quite enjoyable nonetheless and as close as smores as you will find.

Bottle from mane liquor. Pours pitch black with small tan head. Nose is dark fruits, sweet vanilla, chocolate and a definite marshmallow type smell. Taste follows the aroma. Can pick up a marshmallow like toastiness to it. Nice a sweet from the vanilla and chocolate but not overpowering.

Bottle from Mane Liquor. Pours pitch black with an oily dark tan head. Nose is full of sweet vanilla and heavy milk chocolate with mild toasted marshmallow and some raisin. Dark fruits are definitely prominent but the milk chocolate and vanilla steal the show. Superb balance for such a big beer. Much better as it warms, the sweetness is never over the top as could be expected. Nice toasty marshmallow note with mild spice. Very good
