COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION

Bottle. Dark brown close to black with a medium sized light brown head, good retention and lace. Has noticeable port in the nose, but the flavour is a different story. Lots of salty liquorice, tarmac, light burnt malt, warming alcohol, wood, dry port wine, light ash. Full body, oily/light sticky texture, soft carbonation, medium/heavy sweet and bitter and quite salty. Very flavourful and demanding, but has a nice texture and just when it’s about to get too rough it mellows out a bit. One of a kind.

Bottle. Pours near black with a tiny beige head. Aroma is hard roasted malt, earthy, port wine, vinous, dusty, soy, ash, mould, dark sugars, dark chocolate oak oak and more oak. Taste is an intense roller coaster - moderate+ sweet, bitter and moderate salty. Body is medium, texture sticky, carbonation is soft. Finishes sweet, burnt and salty.

>> Thank blomster for the share. Pours inky black with red foam. Spotty lacing. Nose is plastic, black soy/molasses, Scotch barrel, fish sauce, mild skunk, soy. Taste is Scotch barrel, fish sauce, black soy/molasses. Palate is caramel filled chocolate candy/Twix, dry, woody. Couldn’t get down with this.

2014 RBWG Grand Tasting. Dark brown pour with an off-white head. Aroma has sweet malts, dark dried fruits, alcohol. The flavor is sweet and complex but there is a vinous sourness that detracts a bit.

Bottle sample at RBWG. Pours a cola brown color with a small beige head. The aroma and flavor have roasted malts, cocoa, sweet notes, light herbal character, slightly tart, mild spice with a hint of vanilla. Interesting combination of nose and flavor, but something didn’t completely click for me.

At RBWG-2014 Dark reddish-brown; a bit murky. Moderately strong aroma flowed but a very very strong flavor. Dark fruits, coffee, cherries, dark chocolate. Really high complexity. Near chewy body. Hmmm, description sounds good but I found this to be too extreme.

Hazed brown pour with no head. Aroma is sour maltiness. Sweet chocolate with a sour finish. Warm. Watery and thin. past its prime?

Bottle at RBWG Asheville Grand Tasting. Pours deep brown with a frothy beige head. Odd nose, some rubber, burnt cocoa, char. Light to medium sweet flavor with dominant barrel character, inky twang, bitter cocoa. Full bodied, oily, with fine carbonation. Warming finish with whiskey, wet wood, dark bread, mild earthy bitterness. So so.
