3.9 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Really nice beer! Pours black with tons of light tan foamy head and many fingers of frothy lacing. Nose is intense roasted cereal and espresso. Notes of burnt toast, espresso, bitter chocolate, almost a light hint of licorice in the finish, lots of spicy bite and grassy bitterness. Taste is medium sweet and medium to heavy bitter. Creamy full body with lively carbonation. Alcohol well integrated.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
[Bottle (500ml) courtesy of Glouglouburp.] Pours a very dark brown with an average size long-lasting fluffy beige head. Some lacing on the glass. Interesting aroma of dark fruit, roasted malt and smoke first followed by leafy hops, black liquorice and spices. Flavour follows with roasted malt, dark fruit and smoke along with a good amount of leafy hops, chocolate and spices. Moderate long bitter finish. Medium bodied, slightly creamy mouthfeel. Pretty good, I enjoyed it.

beautiful dark coffe-like colour, huge brown head; aroma of coffee, chocolate and roasted malt; a bit one-dimensional roasted taste; OK, but will not be my favourite

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
500ml bottle from Mathieuc via CANBIF 2013, served at room temperature. Murky dark brown with a creamy mocha head. Semi roasted malt, lots of bittersweet chocolate, some vanilla, hints of peat but very faint. Full body, creamy, mild+ carbonation, starts with a hint of sweetness but then becomes bitter, lots of chocolate, becomes very dry, hoppy on the finish with very different characteristics from the front end. Very interesting and tasty beer.

Nice thick palate. Mocha, vanilla and even a light taste of anise. Pours pitch black with mocha head and lacing. Finishes bitter with a touch of sweetness. Rye adds a nice spice to the barley. Soft carbonation. Wonderful balance on this. Bottle from licbo.

Flavour is cocoa, molasses, some graininess and a sort of peppery spice. Some alcohol and acidity apparent too. Mouthfeel is on the creamy side. Silky carbonation. Nice.

3.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 13/20
500ml bottle from the lcbo. pours black with a tan head the reduces. nice dark malt nose, some hops, some rye. the flavour is similar but then there is an ugly dirty yeast flavour that creeps in. slightly oxidized as well. i might try this again as the recipe seemed to produce a nice beer but the beer was flawed by improper packaging.
