COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION

English: Amager Rye Porter is the result of fruitful cooperation between the best of Danish and American brewing cultures. It’s base is made of hard roasted malts and 16% rye. It adds a fantastic sweetness, and a titillating spicy edge, which, combined with a subtle and balanced acidity, is reminiscent of rye bread. This is not a beer for the weak, we’re pleased with the outcome and hope you will be too

500ml bottle labeled "Rye Porter". Pours dark, dark brown and settles in close to black in the glass with an enormous tan head that sticks to the sides stubbornly, receding to a thick collar. Aroma is seriously roasted with black malts and spicy rye. Some heavily roasted espresso and cocoa powder with sweet vanilla and licorice. The taste is thick due to the rye and leaves the palate bathed in roasted black malts, coffee and licorice. The knish is bitter but it’s a combination of the roasted malts and a hoppy presence that I didn’t get in the nose. Mouthfeel is medium bodied and very smooth with soft carbonation and just big and roasty and bitter. I really enjoyed this beer. The rye lends both a spicy character but also a thickness to the feel that really takes this one to the next level. Big, big fan.

Bottle, 10C. Opaque dark brown with a large puffy tan head. Plenty of vaguely sour rye in the aroma, along with roasted malt, prunes, licorice and vanilla. Taste has sweet caramel, licorice, firm roast with a little charring. A little fruit and vanilla. Hops - kumquats, grass, pine - overshadow the roasted bitterness right at the end. Some cocoa and coffee there too. A bit ungracious and soy-saucy at first, but mellowed as it warmed - more coffee and less licorice seemed there. Good, but too hoppy and leans towards suffocating rather than enveloping.
