UPDATED: JUL 18, 2012 Rerate, 500 ml bottle, batch #461, will soon be available at Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. ABV is 8.5%. Black colour, moderate tan head. The dryish aroma has notes of cold strong coffee and roasted malts, hints of woodwork and unsweetened liquorice. The flavour has initially some sweetness, but ends dry and very roasty, with a solid hoppy bitterness to boot. Notes of strong coffee again, hints of unsweetened liquorice and dark bitter chocolate. I’m upping it one point. Original rating: At Copenhagen Beer Festival. Black colour. Moderate roasty (coffee) notes in both aroma and flavour, hints of rye bread. Drinkable, absolutely nothing wrong with it, but as this is Amager, I expected something even better. BTW, we brewed a homebrew porter last year with exactly the same ratio of rye malts in it, and thought it was better than this. Did not taste them side by side, though - and we might have been slightly biased, or slightly drunk ...

Copenhagen Beer Festival. Opaque black stout. Thick creamy tan head. Interesting stout, soft and silky but has that distinctive rye spiceyness. Smooth and tasty.

20110517 500ml bottle from State Line. Perfect appearance for a strong porter, it is very dark mahogany with huge, lasting, sheeting tan head. Hoppy, floral, orange-tinged aroma with nice cocoa notes and some mild grassiness, plus some juniper and menthol herbal undertones. Soft, creamy mouthfeel with medium carbonation and minimal sweetness. Chalky, mildly ashy finish with some dry citrus bitterness. Light astringency. For a strong beer, this is a nice pairing with mild cheese, like the local aged farmers cheese I’ve got here, or I think fontina would be nice. Amager always please me, but there’s a definite house character that I could see others finding off-putting, notably the minty notes I seem to find in most of their beers.

UPDATED: MAY 12, 2011 Infected beer? This had a really strange, brettonomyces style nose. This drowns out the port wineish nose. Good, smooth body with a lot of chocolate, espresso and a tiny bit spicy. A sour finish. I don’t think this was the intended product. It was enjoyable, but I think it could be a lot more without this infection.

Rye gives it a different texture, much better not ice cold. A very good porter.

Thanks to Nanoslug for this. Mmm rug. I love rug. Rug bread...mmm...I’m a real rug muncher, that’s for sure. It’s one of the few Danish words I know. Dark brown pour with a small yellowish tan head and good lacing. Rich roasty aroma with spicy rye, anise, espresso, piney hops, and smoke. Complex flavor as well. Huge roast and hops - piney mainly - on the flavor with some rye and anise. Some bitter espresso. Really tasty. Medium-bodied with big hop resins and good dryness with soft carbonation. Very impressive brew overall.

UPDATED: JUL 23, 2013 Bottle from Mane Liquor. Very good porter. Pours dark brown with a very dense beige head that stays on and on. Leaves some fantastic lacing. Aroma of are very earthy. Coffee beans, powdered chocolate, burnt wood and pine. Complex but a little too subtle for me. The flavour lingers for ages. Only slight warmth from alcohol, a very nice warmth. Lots of charred/roasted notes in the taste. Roasted coffee is huge with the added touch of sweet vanilla. Has a bit of everything really. Dark and sweet fruits. A big pine bitterness to finish the beer off. Great porter in my eyes
