3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle, 10C. Opaque dark brown with a large puffy tan head. Plenty of vaguely sour rye in the aroma, along with roasted malt, prunes, licorice and vanilla. Taste has sweet caramel, licorice, firm roast with a little charring. A little fruit and vanilla. Hops - kumquats, grass, pine - overshadow the roasted bitterness right at the end. Some cocoa and coffee there too. A bit ungracious and soy-saucy at first, but mellowed as it warmed - more coffee and less licorice seemed there. Good, but too hoppy and leans towards suffocating rather than enveloping.

4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
It’s black with a huge, creamy, light brown and very lasting head. The aroma has notes of chocolate, licorice and a touch of smoke. The mouth-feel is oily. The flavour has a light sweetness and notes of roasted malt, chocolate, licorice, light coffee, hints of smoke that almost disappears as it gets warmer. All the way through it has the typical rye-bitterness, especially in the dry finish. It’s a truly nice rye porter.
