COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION

English: Amager Rye Porter is the result of fruitful cooperation between the best of Danish and American brewing cultures. It’s base is made of hard roasted malts and 16% rye. It adds a fantastic sweetness, and a titillating spicy edge, which, combined with a subtle and balanced acidity, is reminiscent of rye bread. This is not a beer for the weak, we’re pleased with the outcome and hope you will be too

Large sticky mocha head. Quite roasty, malty and surprisingly hoppy. Here is a great baltic sweetness to the malts with a good dose of green leafy hopping. Bitter coffee, roasty finsh. Light boozy finsh, good carb, and good mouthfeel. A great beer.

Almost opaque brown with a beautiful thick foamy mocha head with perfect retention. Aroma is coffee, dark chocolate, rye bread, spices, sugar, a hint of smoke and wood. Flavor is dark chocolate, coffee, rye bread, some warming alcohol, moderate sweetness, moderate bitterness and a bit of a metallic taste. Alcohol is pretty well hidden. Medium to full body with a moderately creamy mouthfeel and average carbonation. Very well made!

My Bottom Line :
This Imperial Rye Porter’s lengthy roasted malt finish is met by fierce hop resins, as blackberry jelly and molasses are conjured up by an eager grain bill and phenolic edges.

Further Personal Perceptions :
-A sheet of foam covers the blackness and its dark brown highlights.
-That bitter, roasted finish gets brasher and brasher as the beer gets warmer.
-This somehow feels like a 12% abv brew... Alcohol is that fiery.
-The mouthfeel is quite silky, one of this beer’s best features.
-It doesn’t have the cereal depth of their Hr. Frederiksen, but it’s still fun to sip.
-Dark chocolate flavors appear in the residual sugars.
-As you can imagine, this is quite the complex brew; it’s pleasant for those who want intensity, but those looking for smoothness will get burned.

Bottle.

Bottle labeled as "Rye Porter". Pours with a near black body with a massive tan head. Aromas of brown sugar, molasses, wheat, grainy, brown malt, light metal, caramel, bready and a hit of spice. Flavors are bitter, quite metallic, brown sugar and rye. Off...really off. Lightly sour. Medium bubbles, creamy mouthfeel. Off-putting. A drainpour fortunately.

A dense dark beige foam settles over the blackness. Very roasty ale with hints of chlorine and soft clovey phenols, borderline rubbery. It cannot be desired and might be accentuated to the extreme roastiness and bitterness focused hops, but that does not make it more pleasant. A fair bit of spicy, leafy and especially earthy hops conclude it all, hand in hand with the dry and acidic roastiness. Full-bodied, viscous texture with soft, barely foamy texture. Despite the thickness, minimal malt flavours developed herein, no fruitiness to be found, highly leathery. The off-flavours and exageratedly leaning balance towards bitter roasted malts and almost astringent acidity does not work for me. I usually adore Amager, so that’s a fair disappointment and surprise.

bottle at wlf... medium murky brown, light tan head... rye with a touch of coffee on the nose... the taste is all rye, way to stronger and spicy for me, couldn’t drink much of this
