500 ml bottle @ Gastropub Nordic. Rated @ 19.5.2010.
Pours a cloudy brown colour with a large off-brown head. A lot of yeast on the bottle. Heavy malty aroma with rye, caramel and hop notes. Medium sweet taste with roastiness, chocolate, pine and rye of course. Very distinctive and original taste. Very dry finish. Well balanced porter.

4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Tap at Olympen. Black as all hell with a surge of tiny dark brown bubbles rushing to the surface to form a fat, dense, creamy light brown head on top that stays the duration. Much sticky lace left along the glass wall. Gorgeous. Aroma is very burnt, loads of coffee, cocoa, sour burnt notes, dark milk chocolate, ash, a hint of smoke, something almost woody, and some citrus and caramel. Flavour profile is intense. A solid dose of coffe and cocoa, dark sour berries, burnt sourness.. The malt sweetness really has got a lot to deal with here, but it’s well balanced. No alcohol to be detected anywhere. It’s pretty raw, but it’s definitely good drinkin’. Long, long semidry finish. Nice and thick mouthfeel, moderate carbonation. I really liked this one. First porter I’ve really liked in a good while. Perhaps because it’s thicker in the mouth than most. Relatively complex, very intense, delicious mouthfeel.. all over very solid stuff.

4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Tap at Rattle n Hum. Pours dark brown with a thick, tan head. Sharp aroma with roasted malts, rye and light hops. Flavor is fairly sweet and roasty, with notes of cocoa, caramel and brown sugar. Full bodied, thick and chewy with average carbonation. Finishes with some pronounced bitterness but also plenty of dry roast. Excellent beer.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Very dark brown while pouring out of the 50cl bottle. Looks just black at the glass, black with a hughe brown head that holds ok, and sticks good to the glass. Smell of roastiness, coffee and hops, some spices. More hoppy then expected. A good smell. Taste is roastiness and hops, chocolate, coffee and some spices. A good moderated biterness, combined with some nice sweetness that comes up. The coffee-roasted-biterness holds very long. Not bad at all.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottled. Pours out in a cloudy dark brown appearance with a rich pale brown head. Figs, coffee, mild spices and roasted malts in the aroma. Nearly full-bodied with notes of coffee, dark bread, spices, sweet licorice and sugary brown chocolate. Long medium-bitter finish of spices, coffee, roasted nuts and chocolate-sauce.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Huge brown head. Opaque black body goes just barely dark red at edges. Spicy roasty malty aroma with sugary rye and lacquer notes. Dry-sweet roasty burnt coffee taste with oily resiny spicy notes. Sharpish hot mouthfeel, but taste is also faintly rounded. Might benefit from some cellaring, perhaps. Dry spicy wooden lacquer aftertaste with chocolate and yeast notes. Burnt dusty chocolatey taste lingers. Nice, but a bit harsh, despite all the sweetness. (0.5l bottle, Fish and Beer, Copenhagen.)

4.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
having previously drunk quite a lot of this massive beer it was time give it proper rating. It poured pitch black with a huge dark beige head. Aroma had dark chocolate, burned malt, plenty of hops and rye. Flavour was sweet and seriously hoppy with loads of burned malt, dark chocolate, pine, rye, dark chocolate, english liquerice and grapefruits. Bone dry and bitter finish. What a massive stout even though it is only a 8,5% beer. Perfect balance. Incredible.
