COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION

English: Amager Rye Porter is the result of fruitful cooperation between the best of Danish and American brewing cultures. It’s base is made of hard roasted malts and 16% rye. It adds a fantastic sweetness, and a titillating spicy edge, which, combined with a subtle and balanced acidity, is reminiscent of rye bread. This is not a beer for the weak, we’re pleased with the outcome and hope you will be too

It poured a black color with a light tan head. The aroma was of faint chocolate and some roasted barley. The taste was coffee, chocolate, bready rye, smoke and hoppy grapefruit. Very good.

Aroma is fairly sweet and fruity. The fruit esters are cherry an plum. Malt notes are moderate with some rye and a bit of roast and moderate chocolate. Light caramel note. Pours what looks to be fairly clear. Dark brown in color with ruby highlights on the edges. Thick, light mocha head that steadily recedes leaving a thin film on top and along the edges. Medium lacing. Flavor is similar to the aroma. Rich dark chocolate notes balanced with roast leaving a coffee finish. Some rye notes mid palate becoming more noticeable in the finish. Faint caramel and nuttiness. Less fruit than in the aroma, but still some dark cherry and plum. A hint of tobacco. Low, but present astringency and medium bitterness with no hop flavor. Mouthfeel is medium full bodied with a moderate silkiness. Medium low carbonation. Low to medium low astringency and medium low alcohol warmth. Overall a surprisingly good beer, especially considering I forgot about this bottle for upwards of a year. It's out of style for a porter in that its too big, but it works with the malt complexity. The alcohol isn't too noticeable in aroma or flavor. The rye adds a nice level of complexity without taking too much from the dark malts. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

@ Havregatan. Flaska från Systembolaget (60:-). Mörkbrun/svart. Fyllig, smak av kaffe, choklad, rostad malt, lakrits, men kan inte riktigt hitta rågen bland alla smaker. En riktigt god porter!

bottle. deep brown body with a light brown head and patchy lacing. dominate aroma is black patent malt / char / sweet licorice, toasted cereal grains, a little touch of honey and an inkling of butter as well. mostly clean nose, there were some salt and pepper phenols right after head formation but after it settled it turns more to a sweet, inky dark malt soup, with the rye only contributing a slight bread / cereal / seed quality. alcohol in the nose is noticeable but retrained. medium-full body with pronounced sweetness; oily and savory texture; enjoyably soft carbonation froth; medium bitterness; low hop flavor and aroma. so it’s a bit chewy and has a fudge cake texture as the carbonation is released, and maybe too sweet, but for it’s type and weight it’s probably one of the better examples.
