COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION

English: Amager Rye Porter is the result of fruitful cooperation between the best of Danish and American brewing cultures. It’s base is made of hard roasted malts and 16% rye. It adds a fantastic sweetness, and a titillating spicy edge, which, combined with a subtle and balanced acidity, is reminiscent of rye bread. This is not a beer for the weak, we’re pleased with the outcome and hope you will be too

As Amager Rye Porter. Black, with a thick, frothy brown head. Smells really tasty - toasted rye read, coffee and a little bit of dark chocolate. . Flavor is a really nice mix of sweet and dry - oak, chocolate, some vague fruity notes as it warms. Dry, woody finish. An excellent drinking experience all around...

The very definition of bitter chocolate. Incredibly clean and well defined chocolate on the nose; goes right through the nasal passage such is the intensity. Some hop character as well but plays second fiddle to the chocolate. Palate is more bitter and dry, driven by roast and a more obvious hop impact. Some capacity to age here.

Elwood (1965) - Leesburg, Virginia, USA - APR 30, 2012
Serving: 500 ml. bottle from State Line Liquors. It pours a very dark brown, almost black color with a small, dark tan head. The nose is a mix of pumpernickel, coffee, anise, and roasted malt. The flavor follows suit with the rye playing a subtle roll. Pretty aggressive with the roastiness. Medium to full body with slightly above average carbonation leading to a medium to long, roasty finish. Aggressive but tasty.

Draft at blind tiger. Pours a deep brownish body with no head. Aroma is sweet rye and light citrus? Mouthfeel is thick and creamy with notes of espresso, honey, sweet rye, bready malts and a nice complimenting roast. A wonderful porter.

Dark brown/black with tan head. Smells like sweet chocolate malts. Not very roasty in the smell, but it definitely comes through in the taste. Has a hint of piney hops. The roasty flavor lingers too long, but it’s better balanced out by other flavors than many porters.

Draft. Pours near black with a tan head. Roasted malty aroma, with chocolate and lighter smoked/burnt notes. The flavor has burnt roasted malts, dark chocolate, and lighter piney hoppy notes.

500 ml. bottle. Pours a lasting, mocha head, with some lacing, over a clear, black (SRM 40) body......nose is rye bread, molasses, Boveril/Marmite with hints of coffee, cocoa....taste is rye grains, molasses, light brown sugar, hints of cocoa, coffee, heavy yeast, finishing with a lingering grainy spice, and light sweetness....mouth feel thick, chewy, slightly astringent, alcohol hidden, carbonation makes a thick creamy sensation. Rich, thick, complex is this confection. It is not as sweet an Imperial Stout, and the rye adds wonderful new aromas and flavors. BJCP 8/3/16/4/8

Pours black with a large, lasting head. Nose shows chocolate, cocoa, liquorice, roasted malt and soft coffee. Sweet smelling. Big roaster flavours, some coffee but no where near as interesting as the aroma. Too much booze. Finishes with a big roasty finish. Could use more carbonation, very syrupy.

Bottle labeled Rye Porter. Pours dark brown color with tan head. Aromas of roasted malts, coffee, and chocolate. Roasted malt and rye flavors with dark chocolate and coffee. Slight alcohol burn. Full body with lively carbonation and a sticky mouthfeel.

Bottle. Pours an almost opaque brown body with a nice one finger frothy brown head that had pretty nice retention. The nose is sweet and rather intense, some nice chocolate and licorice, roasty black malt, black strap molassas, and just a little rye and alcohol. The flavor is just as intense, a little too heavily roasted and sweet for me, there’s a level of acrid burnt coffee like notes that exceed what I like for the style. Not all bad, I like the licorice and dark caramel notes. Thick chewy body with a little alcohol heat on the back end. Light fizzy carbonation level. OK, but not the best, and not one that I’d purchase again.

Bottle from Olbutikken. Very dark brown, almost black with big bubbly creamy golden head. Aroma is lots of roast, coffee bitterness, something floral, brown bread and milky chocolate. Taste is full on roasted maltiness up front, then the chocolate and creaminess comes through and the finish is bitter and hoppy. Very thick and smooth. Feels full on in the mouth but at the same time very drinkable. Pretty damn nice.
