Handbottled. Hazy ambery brown colour with a small off-white head. Aroma is caramel malts, some herbs, rather spiced along with some mild earthyness. Flavour is sweet malts and rather spicy. Leaves a quite long burning spicy aftertaste in the mouth.
2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20 Ungstrup (23917) - Oamaru, NEW ZEALAND - OCT 9, 2009
Draft. A hazy brown beer with a thin off-white head. The aroma is totally dominated by star anise. The flavor is sweet with very strong notes of star anise, on a lightly malty back ground, leading to a bitter finish.
3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 Grovlam (4108) - Copenhagen, DENMARK - FEB 2, 2009
Hand bottle 50 cl. Large light brown creamy head that mostly lasted. Good display of lacework. Cloudy dark mahogany color. Strong notes of star aniseed but also floral, sweet malty and caramel notes. Over the palate came mild almost roasted malty tones and a feel of liquorish mostly likely from the star aniseed. Dried fruity undertones as well. At some point it almost felt like spicy notes. Medium bodied with an average carbonation and mild dry thick texture. Moderated sweet flavor with mild bitterness. Lingering liquorish spicy star aniseed and thick malty finish.
2.6 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20 fonefan (24928) - VestJylland, DENMARK - DEC 4, 2008
Draught at Nørrebro Bryghus on 5th Birthday Party, Ryesgade 3, 2200 Copenhagen, Denmark. Unclear dark amber brown color with a small, virtually none appearance, virtually none lacing, fully diminishing, off-white head. Aroma is moderate to heavy malty, spicy - star anis and star anis, cinnamon, chilli notes. Flavor is moderate sweet and moderate to heavy bitter with a long to average duration. Bitternes is star anis, way to spice - overpowered and not balanced IMO. Body is light to medium, texture is oily to watery, carbonation is soft. 110908
3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 yngwie (9175) - Kristiansand, NORWAY - NOV 20, 2008
On tap at Nørrebro’s 5 year anniversary. A hazy brown beer with a minimal beige head. Cardamom, cloves, roaste malt and a shitload of anise in the aroma. Probably way too much anise, but I liked it a lot. Christmasy flavor with sweetness and spices in a nice union. Cardamom, cloves, ginger and anise here as well. Roasted malt and a nice bitterness as well. Full body and a little sourish touch. It finishes as it started, spiced. A beer that is tough to drink, but as a sipper with nuts and cookies it will probably do fine. (080911)
2.5 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 10/20 Papsoe (22946) - Frederiksberg, DENMARK - OCT 12, 2008
(On tap) Hazy dark brown with an orange hue and a tiny rough off-white head. Distinct - almost overpowering - aroma of star anis. Medium body, a little low in carbonation. Sweetish dried fruits and then again a ton of star anis. No real bitterness. Not exactly Amagers finest moment - actually it’s their definite low point. 110908
2.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20 Rune (4924) - Tromsø, NORWAY - OCT 1, 2008
Draught, guest brew at the Birthday party at Nørrebro Bryghus. Dark amber body. Missing head. Sweet aroma of liquorice. Taste of lozenge and cough drops added some unidentified spices. Has got some drinkability, but it is a bit too candy sweet for my taste buds (Copenhagen, 11.09.2008).
3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20 tarjei (1949) - Bryne, NORWAY - OCT 1, 2008
Tap at Nørrebro Bryghus, Copenhagen. Hazy brown color, small, fuzzy beige head. Aroma is spices and sourness - it´s a bit raw. Flavor is spicy with sweetness and hops. Dry finish.
2.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20 Christian (8548) - Odense, DENMARK - SEP 27, 2008
Hazy ruby beer with a disappearing off-white head. Extreme anise and licorice aroma with a little fruit and malt in the background. Dry anise flavour with a touch of chocolate. In the genre of really awful over-spiced anise beers, at least this one is reasonably drinkable.
3.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 Beer3000 (3094) - Kristiansand, NORWAY - SEP 25, 2008
On tap @ Nørrebro. Hazy, dark reddish brown body with a small beige head. Aroma of liquorices, anise, cough-mixture and Fernet Branco. Flavor is bittersweet malt, anise, liquorices and herbs. It’s interesting, but I find the body to light for all the flavors – a bit unbalanced in other words.
