Commercial Description:

English: Sundby Stout is a classic ”Stout” and yet it dares to be different and challenging. As soon as the beer is opened and you smell it, you sense that this stout smells differently than what you would expect. Late in the brewing process we have added the noble, American dried hops such as Nugget, Centennial, and Cascade, which provide flower-like notes that lay on top of the typical stout characteristics of burned malt that adds lightness and freshness to the beer. Sundby Stout appears dark as the night, while the head is dense, light brown – almost cappuccino-like creamy, as your tongue sense both malt sweetness and hints of bitter, dark chocolate and English liquorice. The sweetness, however, is rightfully challenged from the hard roasted malt and the split, un-malted and roasted barley, which both contribute to the “burned” touch of our stout.

Black with an off-white head. The aroma is dominated by perfume and hops. Palatewise the beer is full bodied and soft - a nice base for the sweet flavours of roasted malts, coffee, toffee and perfume.

Aroma is roasted has lots of coffee, some chocolate, fruits and dried fruits. Good balanced. hazy, black/dark brown coloured with a lasting big, beige head. Taste is sweet, has coffee, roast, dried prunes, some chocolate, some bitter hops. More dry towards the finish, nice firm body.

Flakse.

Almost black colored, big brown head. Rich aroma: roastiness, vanilla, some vegetables with mild chocolate and alcohol. Medium bodied. Flavor is strongly roasted with strong bitter hops, some chocolate also here. Aftertaste is again finely hopped, some vanilla also in aftertaste. Good strongly hopped stout.

Bottle 50cl, best before 08 2008. This is a good stoutr, among the best i have tasted. It is quite the ordinary high quality stout though, nothing special about it. Well crafted. The taste somehow reminds me of concentrated guiness. All the different tastes are well balanced, like food where you know lots of spices have been used, but you can’t tell them from each other. Great beer, actually. As usual they spend 20 lines describing a historical fact about copenhagen and 1.5 lines about what’s in the bottle (water, malts, hops, yeast).

Bottle, 50cl. DØE Porter/Stout tasting. Pours a very dark brown beer, with a light brown head. The aroma is dark/roasted malts, with a slightly note of smoke. The flavor is chocolate, coffeen and roasted malts. The mouthfeel is lasting and has a good aftertaste. Overall this beer is just around average.
