COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION

English: Maybe you feel it already, when the cap is removed and you put your nose to the bottle - this " Stout " smells different than what you are accustomed to. We have dry hopped this stout in the late stages of fermentation using the American noble varieties of Nugget , Centennial and Cascade, which allow the floral tones that make this a characteristic Stout - flavours of roasted malt give both lightness and freshness.
The glass appears Sundby Stout black , while the head is tight, light brown and almost cappuccino creamy, the tongue senses both malt sweetness, hints of bitter dark chocolate and English liquorice. Sweetness, however, cleverly balances the hard roasted malt and the split , umalted and roasted barley , which both help to give beer its roasted flavor. Sundby Stout is a classic " Stout ", which nonetheless dares to be different and challenge convention.
Ingredients: Water, barley malt , hops, and yeast

Bottle, 10C. Black with a huge loose light tan head. Aroma of chocolate, licorice, grapefruit, burnt coffee. Taste has dark sugars and chocolate, some citrus and pine and coffee with a bit of a nasty metallic bite. Well in date and presumably a bad bottle. [edit] Peeking below, this is batch 297 too.

Bottle (rated sometime in 2008). Head is initially average sized, creamy, light brown, fully lasting. Body is dark brown to black. Aroma is moderately malty (roasted grain, coffee, nuts, chocolate), with a note of vanilla, light note of cardboard. Flavor is moderately sweet, lightly acidic, lightly bitter. Finish is lightly sweet, lightly acidic, moderately bitter. Medium body, velvety/creamy texture, lively carbonation.

Bouteille de 500ml. Batch 297. 5/10

UPDATED: OCT 17, 2011 (50 cl, batch 297) The look : Almost black. Creamy beige head with good retention. The aroma : Faint roasted malt, little smoke along with a slight trace of sweetness. The flavor : Shy roasty mouth, sourish notes along with smoked fish hints. The palate : Quite thin. Evel Kenivel kind of carbonation with a watery texture. The finish : Harsh metallic bitterness. The appreciation : I guess I picked the wrong bottle.

Balanced silky soft and tar black stout with a slightly burnt taste, a little under-carbonated and the foam disappears astonishingly fast

Bottle from Mane Liquor. Pours a lovely dark chestnut brown with a large, frothy beige head. Aroma was roasted malts with some citrus and floral notes. Slightly sweet on the nose as well. Upon the first sip, noticed a lot of dryness resembling that of a few foreign stouts I’ve had lately. Finishes almost like a black ipa. Lots of citra there with pine and floral hints. Full mouth feel and a dry finish. Quite a nice beer and could definitely sit back with a few of these

500 mL bottle from State Line Liquors shared at the 14th Richmond Ratebeer Gathering, 3/19/11. Pours a dark reddish brown color with a thin head. Decent head retention and lacing. Aroma of rich chocolate, roasted malts, cherry like fruit notes, anise, coffee, nutty notes, faintly hoppy finish. Nutty and roasty taste with sweet malts, coffee, spices and a bitter hop finish. Medium bodied. Nice beer.
