English: Cain is said to have murdered his brother out of envy. At Amager Bryghus we believe that murder is taking things a bit far. However, we admit to being envious because we weren’t the first brewer to come up with the beer style we admire the most: a crisp and hopped up West Coast IPA. We won’t kill anybody because we didn’t come up with the idea first, instead we present to you “Envy” - our take on this style. Humble – yet envious.
We’re not proud to be sinners, but at least we’re open about it…

Brewed from: Pilsener and Munich malts. Hopped with Amarillo, Simcoe and Centennial and fermented with an American ale yeast.

50cl bottle poured into a Four Hands pint (style) glass. Pours a hazy straw colour with a moderate amount of yeast in the bottom which was added after a few samples and did not detract from the taste. Aroma is highly flowery but does not fully prepare you for the severity of the taste profile. Massive bitterness, massive flowery hops and minimal maltiness all provide a wonderfully crisp aperitif. This is the first West Coast IPA I have tried and I would rate this above many IIPAs I have tried. Truly wonderful one I shall seek out where possible.

Bottle. Orange, little hazy with big, semi-densed, white head. Medicore head retention, good lacing. Unfortunately a little bit oxidized aroma - wet floral hops, citrus (grapefruit, lemon). Medium caramel notes. Taste is medium bitter, mainly citrus hops flavours, little soapy and noticable caramel notes. Quite well balanced. Finish is dry an long bitter. In overall a little bit too oxidized, despit BB is 07/2015. But all in all well balanced and hoppy IPA.

From Craftissimo (on double Craftissimo day). Hazy straw-copper with creamy bubbly off-white head. Massive architectural foamy spotty legs. Smells of wet floral hop, lemony malt, herbal spice, sweet thick yeast, ripe fruit (peach, apple, orange, fig), apple juice, a tiny bit cloying and puckering but not bad, just a little bit heavy. Tastes of lemon, orange, resinous bitter hop, light pepper. Body is thin to medium, bitter, mineral lightly spicy finish. Big and a little musty like other Amager beers but interesting.

Bottle from Craftissimo. Craftissimo twice day. Hazy straw yellow-orange pour with big poofy head. Impressive architectural lacing. Aroma is sweet juicy hops - pineapple mango mostly. Taste is more sharply bitter, but with same fruitiness from aroma underneath. Somehow tastes a bit muddled like the other Amager ones we've had. Not bad at all though. Bitterness lasts, with a surprising amount of boozy warmth at the end. Good fruity boozy IPA. Gets better as it warms.

TEJA (1536) - Stockholm, SWEDEN - APR 8, 2015
Bottle from Systembolaget, Sweden Big bubbly white foam. Clear, solid yellow color. Big citrus aroma with some unplesent sulfur. Huge hop taste with a grapefruit. A strong and a bit harsh bitterness. Mild maltiness and a medium body.

Hazy, light amber body with a big, white head that laces the glass well. Strong aroma of tropical fruits, mostly peach, but also mango and some grapefruit. Heavy+ bitter taste, this one really bites! Strong flavour of resin, tropical fruits, grapefruit and light caramel in the back. A bit grassy. Moderate carbonation, mid-bodied, dry. Delicious!

Turboninja (179) - Tampere, FINLAND - MAR 14, 2015
Tap@Konttori, Tampere, Finland. Medium/strong aroma with sweet fruits, peach, caramel. Light orange color with medium pure white head and hazy liquid. Strong, sweet taste with mainly peach and some citrus, strong hops come particularly in long aftertaste that also have some malty flavors. Medium taste spectrum. Medium/light body with medium carbonation. Overall almost perfect with a bit too light body and too pale color.

Light aromatic qualities with a hint of sweetness. Clear pale pour with thin head that leaves lacing on the glass. Deeply bitter flavor but not much complexity. Pretty simple and good IPA.

Pale clear golden color with very little foam. The smell is really hoppy flowery bitter. The taste is awesome hoppy bitter and than shifts to an aggressive bitterness that is less helpful. The aftertaste stays bitter. Good in the beginning, but it’s getting worse.
