Danish: Saisoner er in. Saisoner er hippe. Simpelthen.

English: Saisons are in. Saisons are hip. It’s as simple as that. So far, no one has come up with a good explanation as to why this very traditional Belgian farmhouse style has suddenly skyrocketed in popularity amongst the in- crowd of the beer geek nation. Except, of course, for the fact it’s simply a very delicate drink in all of its refined simplicity. But we’ve committed a sin. We couldn’t resist. We poured our Amager Saison variety into a barrel. We hope the soft tannins from the wood and the noble Pinot Noir grapes add a juicy extra twist. By doing so, we may bring the wrath of Saison fundamentalists upon ourselves. But frankly, we don’t give a damn!
We’re not proud to be sinners, but at least we’re open about it…

Shared bottle @ Cardinal. Pours a hazy deep golden color with a low head. Expected some more carbonation. Aromas of sugar and caramel, and something funky from the yeast. Flavors are sweet and doesn’t taste like a saison for me. But it’s smooth and interesting.

Hazy golden pour with a significant amount of white head that leaves a little lace down the glass. A nose full of yeast. Lots of spice and some bright fruit esters. Almost has a gingerbread impression to me. The palate is quite different from the nose. Still lots of spice but the fruit is almost nonexistent and there’s something that’s making me think of vanilla ice cream, but that’s not quite what I’m thinking of. There’s a little weight on the palate with a nice prickly carbonation.

On tap 5 oz. pour at Max's in the Fell's Point district, Baltimore, MD. Clear, rusty orange with a small khaki head and minimal lacing. Aroma of Pinot Noir, berries, earthy herbal and spicy notes and a fruity brown sugar sweetness. Taste of brown sugar, cloves, berries, Pinot Noir and herbal notes. Medium body and low carbonization. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

50cl bb11/2016, courtesy of Enjoyit in the EU local Swap 4.0: mange tak! Pours a pink-inflected peach orange with confident white head. Nose of hibiscus, rum-like abv fumes, paint thinner and older red berries. Pinot noir profile is immediately apparent, superceding the fruity pale malt grain notes. Metallic, not quite US-artificial brett. Wine barrel tannins and Chinook pine provide the astringent finish that the saison yeast usually takes care of. Adding the yeast on 3rd pour definitely adds additional subtle fruit (peach, gooseberry) basket notes to the taste, as well providing some extra texture. Drinkable experiment, not quite the self-proclaimed sinful masterwork.

Smells much yeast and a little cirtus. The flavor is grassy and herbal but easy to drink and good. The aftertaste gets a good hold in the upper part of the mouth for a long time. Perhaps the aftertaste has a hint of caramel as well. Follow me @ Kung av öl @ Facebook for more pictures and ratings.
