COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION

English: The sunstone - much disputed among scholars. Did the Viking navigators really have such a tool that would help them point out what was east and what was west - even on a less than sunny day? We certainly believe so. Many years later no sunstone was needed when Amager Bryghus was invaded by what very much looked like Viking ancestors of American descent. Hailing from Munster, Indiana, Chris Boggess and Barnaby Struve of Three Floyds Brewing arrived not with a vengeance but with very loud King Diamond on their portable mp3 player. This was not a day for slaughter but for brewing. And brew we did. The mellow and dangerously quaffable Arctic SunStone is proof that even Viking warriors can have a more subtle side to them. All hail to Three Floyds.

Ingredients: Water. Malts: Pale, Munich, Melanoidin. Hops: Tomahawk, Citra, Centennial, Simcoe. Yeast: UK-ale.

Bottle. Large creamy head. Cloudy yellow color. Aroma of peach, citrus, fruit, light malt. Over the palate, citrus, mango, fruit and dusty malt. Medium body, average carbonation, light dry texture. Light bitter and sweet flavor. Light fruity and citrus finish.

bottle shared by albatross, many thanks bro! (relatively fresh) pours muddy pale orange with a small reviving off-white, some lacing. bright oranges, tangerines, spicy citrus, peppery apricots, herbal tea and other lightly astringent herbs, toasted and slightly doughy rye-like maltiness, grass, white pepper. average carbonation - slightly foamy, although not disturbing too much mouthfeel, light body, lightly astringent, balanced grassy-spicy-citrusy finish. nice stuff!

500 ml bottle from Les Vignerons. Light orange, perfectly clear, with a big, creamy and persistent off white head. Very perfumy nose, not the freshest example, but I’ve no idea how hold this bottle is. Resinous pine needles, plenty of citrus fruit notes, a hint of rye bread and toffee. Starts relatively mellow and balanced, but the bitternes grow more and more towards the end. Juicy and tasy, perhaps not as dry as I was hoping. Lingering fruity taste, very clean and refreshing. A bit too fizzy unfortunately. Average to lively carbonation, medium body, creamy texture. Ok.

Good, but not great. The reason I say this is that the hoppiness is too much for an APA. Call this an IPA, and we’ll talk.

Pours a very sligtly cloudy golden. Aroma has hops, but not overwhelming. Pine and grass. Taste is on the hoppy side for a pale. But a nice balance.

12oz pour at Banger and Lace. Slightly hazy orange color with a small white head. Definitely an american pale ale from the aroma. Light orange, apricot, citrus, some bread character. Nice. Taste is definitely more malt forward. Citrus orange, grapefruit, caramel, and more orange in the finish. Easy drinking but nothing special.

Without even seeing the hop bill I was able to guess from the nose that there was some simcoe (a bit cat pissy) and either citra or mosaic, I guess mosaic but the tropical fruitiness was a dead giveaway. Flavors are a bit grassy, some tart pineapple, crisp pale malts, no sweetness, nice. Zingy carbonation, lively as hell on the tongue. This started out as not my thing and quickly grew on me. Very good.

Bottle 0,5l. Pours slightly cloudy orange amber colour with a small white head. Aroma of herbs and grass with hints of marmelade. Taste of herbs, malts and grass. Medium body, moderate bitterness, smooth, earthy, average carbonation. Not bad but I found it a bit messy! ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

4oz on tap at Ei8ht Ball. Hazy orange amber color. Good bigger off-white head, that leaves great, thicker sheets of lace. Awesome big citrusy hop aroma, a lot more american-style hop than expected on this pale ale. Good bready malt, light caramel. Big orange citrus, grapefruit, some pine and grassiness. Moderate sweet taste, more of a dry finish, moderate-plus bitter taste. Medium body. Smooth, kind soft lighter carbonation, with a nice chewier thicker texture to it. Slick in the body, dry in the finish. Fantastic pale ale. Much better than expected. Big amount of hops, yet a nice malt balance, too.
