English: The sunstone - much disputed among scholars. Did the Viking navigators really have such a tool that would help them point out what was east and what was west - even on a less than sunny day? We certainly believe so. Many years later no sunstone was needed when Amager Bryghus was invaded by what very much looked like Viking ancestors of American descent. Hailing from Munster, Indiana, Chris Boggess and Barnaby Struve of Three Floyds Brewing arrived not with a vengeance but with very loud King Diamond on their portable mp3 player. This was not a day for slaughter but for brewing. And brew we did. The mellow and dangerously quaffable Arctic SunStone is proof that even Viking warriors can have a more subtle side to them. All hail to Three Floyds.

Ingredients: Water. Malts: Pale, Munich, Melanoidin. Hops: Tomahawk, Citra, Centennial, Simcoe. Yeast: UK-ale.

Look - Very thick white frothy head with thick carbonation. Bright gold, almost orange color like the label. The head has little retention. Smell - Hoppy, lightly dank. Wheat. Bready. Faint fruit. Taste - Wheat upfront with a hoppy finish. Bubblegum. Toasty. Slight red wine in the after taste. Feel - Body shows a lot of carbonation but doesn’t come through on the mouth. Medium bodied. Overall - I like this. It does remind me Gumballhead which makes sense with Amager’s wheat mixed with Floyds’ hops.

WYGLĄD: Barwa ciemno złota, opalizujące. Piana drobna, wysoka, dość długa. Ładnie zdobi szkło.
AROMAT: Intensywny. Świeży cytrusowy zapach (grejpfrut, pomelo, mandarynka). W tle owoce tropikalne (ananas, mango, marakuja) oraz karmelowo-ziołowa słodowość (cukierki ślazowe).
SMAK: Bomba smakowa.

probstblueribbon (3254) - Nepean, Ontario, CANADA - MAY 14, 2015
500 ml bottle from Bieropholie, served at cellar temperature in a tulip glass.

App.: Amber with fine floaters and a full, orange-light tan head. Aroma: Vibrant, juicy citrus hops, tropical fruits, decent Munich/melanoidin malt support, lightly resinous, there’s a wee bit of something from the hops that I don’t like...hard to describe. Palate: Medium body and carbonation. Flav.: Reasonably fruity with a little more of that less-than-ideal thing (burnt hair??), good malt backbone; dry with moderate bitterness and a nice citrusy finish.

Pretty good.
