English: The sunstone - much disputed among scholars. Did the Viking navigators really have such a tool that would help them point out what was east and what was west - even on a less than sunny day? We certainly believe so. Many years later no sunstone was needed when Amager Bryghus was invaded by what very much looked like Viking ancestors of American descent. Hailing from Munster, Indiana, Chris Boggess and Barnaby Struve of Three Floyds Brewing arrived not with a vengeance but with very loud King Diamond on their portable mp3 player. This was not a day for slaughter but for brewing. And brew we did. The mellow and dangerously quaffable Arctic SunStone is proof that even Viking warriors can have a more subtle side to them. All hail to Three Floyds.

Ingredients: Water. Malts: Pale, Munich, Melanoidin. Hops: Tomahawk, Citra, Centennial, Simcoe. Yeast: UK-ale.

Bottle. Golden, hazy, average and mostly lasting head. Moderate, malty and lightly sweetish aroma, light - some caramel and some ttropical fruitiness, some grapefruit - piney hoppyness. Body is light to medium, malty and lightly sweetish - sweetish flavor, light - some caramel and some tropical fruitiness, some grapefruit - light piney/citrus hoppyness. Finish is short to average, malty and lightly sweetish, light - some caramel and some tropical fruitiness, some piney - grapefruit hoppyness. Bit thin - could use more bitterness (and less caramel). OK APA but nothing to stand out from the crowd.

How: Bottle (500 ml) at home. Batch 942. Best before 12/2015. Thanks to Boutip for this one!

>>> An easy drinking - and a bit tired - orange forward Pale Ale with an interesting spicy/toasted malt backbone.

- Hazy-cloudy orangey color with a medium mostly lasting off-white head and little lacing.
- Aroma isn’t bright - maybe because of age - but is orange forward with nice citrusy features (oranges, tangerine, clementine).
- The malt backbone is nicely spicy with toasted and peppery presence.
- Balance is good between citrusy features and malt. A little more aromatic presence when fresher probably doesn’t hinder the balance though.
- It’s never heavy and it’s rather easy drinking.
- Body is medium, carbonation is moderate and finish is spicy and citrusy.

Flavors: Citrus (mostly orange, but also tangerine and clementine), toasted notes, moderate spiciness, grass, pepper.

Tejszínesen lágy illatok vegyülnek aszalt gyümölcsök, sárgabarack és egyéb, vaníliában ázott nyalánkságok puha aromáival, az előzmenyeket pedig egy nem kevésbé letisztult, kellően intenzív, édes malátás test követi, melynek szegélyeit karakteres komló ízletes leköszönése alkotja. Igazi amerikai hangulatú ízbomba.

This beer along with the Kaaad were presented to me from a business partner and friend Simon L. (and Tim). What a jewel of the Danish craft scene the Amager beers are. I would not immediately have tasted this to be an American Pale Ale, but the facettes of this beer are evident and also well rounded.
