COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION

English: The sunstone - much disputed among scholars. Did the Viking navigators really have such a tool that would help them point out what was east and what was west - even on a less than sunny day? We certainly believe so. Many years later no sunstone was needed when Amager Bryghus was invaded by what very much looked like Viking ancestors of American descent. Hailing from Munster, Indiana, Chris Boggess and Barnaby Struve of Three Floyds Brewing arrived not with a vengeance but with very loud King Diamond on their portable mp3 player. This was not a day for slaughter but for brewing. And brew we did. The mellow and dangerously quaffable Arctic SunStone is proof that even Viking warriors can have a more subtle side to them. All hail to Three Floyds.

Ingredients: Water. Malts: Pale, Munich, Melanoidin. Hops: Tomahawk, Citra, Centennial, Simcoe. Yeast: UK-ale.

500 ml bottle into pint glass, no bottle dating. Pours slightly hazy orange/amber color with a 2 finger dense and rocky off white head with great retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lasts. Nice spotty soapy lacing clings down the glass, with a good amount of streaming carbonation retaining the head. Aromas of grapefruit, tangerine, apricot, mango, lemon zest, orange peel, apple, light pine, light caramel, toasted bread, and floral/grassy earthiness. Very nice aromas with good balance and complexity of citrus/tropical hops, moderate bready malt, and light fruity yeast notes; with good strength. Taste of grapefruit, tangerine, apricot, mango, lemon zest, orange peel, apple, light pine, light caramel, toasted bread, and floral/grassy earthiness. Fair amount of pine/grassy bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of grapefruit, tangerine, apricot, mango, lemon zest, orange peel, apple, light pine, light caramel, toasted bread, and floral/grassy earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Damn nice complexity and balance of bright citrus/tropical hops, moderate bready malt, and light fruity yeast flavors; with a great malt/bitterness balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and body; with a very smooth, crisp, and fairly sticky, and slightly bready mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is very well hidden with minimal warming lingering after the finish. Overall this is a damn nice pale ale. All around great complexity and balance of bright citrus/tropical hops, moderate bready malt, and light fruity yeast flavors; and very smooth and crisp to drink. This is definitely unique as it generally feels like an American pale ale; but English yeast is still definitely noticeable, but fairly restrained. A very enjoyable offering.

500 ml bottle. Unclear golden body with a big, lacing off-white head. Aroma has mild malt and much fruit dominated by peaches. Flavor is light caramel malt, citric fruit and moderate bitterness. Medium body and average aftertaste. Totally OK, but not outstanding from the masses.

Cloudy bright orange-amber with yeasty-looking sudsy cream-white head. Smells of fruit (peach, grapefruit, orange), pith, very musty, light lemony spice. Nice aroma. Tastes quite bitter, yeast, pith. Body is thin to medium, a little flat. Very nice for a pale ale, very bitter, lots of flavour esp. in the nose.

Bottle from Craftissimo at home. Surprisingly orange hazy pour. Color is nice, haziness isn't that appealing. Thick foamy head. Aroma is deliciously juicy hops with some grape juice, piney hops, and some yeasty/grassy. Great. Taste is somewhat grassy, piney hops. A little. It of the Amager plasticky taste but only in the back. Really clean tasting but still full flavored. Quite malty for an APA, and heavier body, more like an IPA. Really solid. Would get again.
