Brewed by Amarcord Brewery in the small medieval town of Apecchio, Italy, AMA Bruna is a beer made specifically for the Italian dinner table. Designed by Brooklyn Brewmaster Garrett Oliver, Ama Bruna is refermented in the bottle with brown candy sugar(7,5% ABV). Complex, but soft on the palate, the malt flavors are pronounced but subtle, with flavors of toffee, a touch of chocolate, pear and cinnamon as a result of the caramelized sugar.

Pours a very dark copper that shows highlights when held up to the light. Very active head that disappears quickly and but doesn’t leave any lacing. Aroma is cherries, yeast and sugar. Taste was not as intense as the aroma which was a little disappointing. The carbonation threw me off at the first sip. Not sure what to make of it. Very dry finish. Interesting beer. Might have to revisit it to get a better grasp if it.

750ml bottle. Unfiltered orange-brown body. Foamy off-white head. Kind of a buttery chestnut aroma. Nice body, effervescence. Medium bodied, easy drinking. Very mellow malty tones. Classic Italian chestnut, dark fruit, brown caramel, chocolate.

Last bottle saved from Seiyu. L: pours a brown with reddish highlights, a fizzy cola-esque head that disappears. S: plenty of brown sugar, malt, and some dark fruit like currants or dates in the aroma. L: mild flavours in line with the nose, only slightly boozy. F: mouthfeel is a bit light and spritzy and over quite quickly, it falls away a bit towards the end. Warms the throat ok. O: this had a decent dubbel nose going for it, but not quite flavourful or lasting enough to match the classics. Worth a try.

0,35l Flasche. Karamell und Lackritze in der Nase. Sehr dunkles Braun. Viel Kohlensäure. Verbranntes Karamell auch im Antrunk. Leider dann eher flacher Geschmack, keine Nuancen. Im Abgang alkoholisch.

Bottle 750ml @ Geokkjer
Pours hazy amber brown with a off-white head. Aroma has notes of malt, caramel, dried fruits and hint of yeast and apples. Taste is medium sweet and light bitter with a long malty, yeasty and apple finish. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft.

Bottle, 75cl. A big, off-white head forms over an almost clear, dark amber-brown body. Some curtains. Raisins, prunes, some caramel and yeast in the aroma. Hints of yeast and some baked apples. It’s medium bodied, quite dry and with a pleasant carbonation. Toffee, some chocolate, baked apples, dried dark fruits and some bitterness in the flavor. Lasting finish. Quite nice this one, but a bit thin and dry I think. 150718

Pours brown with a small tan head. Aroma is dark fruits, caramel and earthy. Taste is sweet with a faint bitterness, mostly sweet. Soft carbonation lends too the smooth mouth feel.

Pours attractive deep amber-red with foamy tan head that quickly reduces but leaves long-lasting skim. Aroma is malt, spiced pear, brown sugar. Taste is softly caramel, figs and the occasional mild hit of spice. There’s a bit of heat from the alcohol, but in general it is unassertive, very light and drinkable for 7.5 ABV. Finish is nicely dry. This fills the bill for a drinkable, supportive table wine, able to complement food or stand on its own as needed.
