COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Prima Donna Special Lager is a classic lager noted for its unique aroma and its unsurpassed hoppy flavour. It is characterized by a brillant golden color, a compact head, and its fresh, thirst-quenching qualities.

An Oscar-winning beer
…we chose to call our beer Gradisca, because we brew it in this corner of Romagna and San Marino, between the sea and the hills, a land rich in history and amazing stories. But above all, as a tribute to an illustrious celebrity who was born here, film director Frederico Fellini, who conquered cinema-goers the whole world over with his rich and poetic vein of inspiration, winning as many as four Oscars for his films, including, of course, Amarcord, where Gradisca is the protagonist. 4.7% Alc. Vol.

Note: Uses the name Gradisca on the local market, and Prima Donna for export.
Known for being 4.7% ABV in the past, now at 5.2% ABV.

swing top bottle (1000ml). -From Pianeta Birra 2008 as Gradisca.
Pours a nice slightly hazy yellow colour with medium sized white head that went away slowly and odd dry herbal nutty nose. Malty and grainy aroma with notes of herbs, caramel and cereals. Short and rather bitter finish.

Lightly hazed straw color. Small lid of white bubbles. Unclean aromas, with grain, touch of caramel, dirt and cutting oil. Sweet simple syrup start. Middle full of dry herbs and corn husks. HInts of biscuits and corn fritter. Somewhat thick in feel, yet fizzy. Mild lemon pith and zest finish and simple citric juice linger. Can’t think of many reasons to drink this.

Bottle. Head is initially small, frothy/fizzy, white, mostly diminishing. Body is hazy light to medium yellow. Aroma is lightly malty (grain), lightly hoppy (herbs), with notes of metal, soap, DMS. Flavor is moderately sweet, lightly acidic, lightly bitter. Finish is lightly to moderately sweet, lightly acidic, moderately bitter, husky, unclean. Medium body, watery texture, lively carbonation. Poor aroma typical of swill lagers. Unclean, unpleasant.

Bottle poured a clear yellow with a lasting white head. Aromas of corn, straw, yeast and light citrus. Palate was light bodied and crisp. Flavors of bread, light straw and a hint of citrus with a crisp clean finish.

330ml bottle found at AA Tiffany W&S in Kalamazoo. Hazy golden straw colored body. Sharp pils malt nose, crisp, biscuity, like straw. Sharp, refreshing, crisp, with almost a bite. Leaves a taste of corn syrup. Develops a chemical smell.

UPDATED: DEC 31, 2007 Decent bready yeast aroma, rather attractive. Surprisingly free of skunk. Slight hazy appearance, otherwise ubiquitous pale yellow amercan lager in appearance. Has a decently clean flavor with little hop bitterness. Non offensive an well mannered. Good amount of average fizz in the carbonation, but could use more. Finish is easy to enjoy, perhaps a nice session brew. Best premium lager to date for me.

12oz bottle: Clear golden, moderate head, decent lacing and retention. Aroma is quite grassy, also sweet pale malts, some bread. Lighter body, quite drinkable with simple and enjoyable flavors.

A nice premium lager. Aroma of light malt and not much else. Pour was a medium gold with a one finger white head with no lacing. Taste was a bit sweet, but very drinkable. Think pale lager with more malt flavor and a bit of sweetness. Nice hot weather beer. Could use a bit more carbonation, but good nonetheless.

This is a new beer in my market. Sampled from a 12 oz brown bottle this beer poured a hazy yellow-gold color with a large white head with exceptionally tiny bubbles. The aroma was tangy, bitter and had a moderate crisp floral hop note. The flavor was bitter, tangy and a bit sweet with a light crisp floral hop element and a hint of pepper. Essentially a slightly improved take on an industrial lager.

Bottle sample with sales rep at the Dilly Deli. Poured clear amber color with an average frothy white head that diminished slowly with fair lacing. Moderate grass hop and grain aroma. Light to medium body with soft carbonation. Light to medium sweet flavor with a light sweet finish of short duration.
