Doggythedog (1068), Split, Croatia Dec 23, 2004 My third San marino beer.... and it’s a very nice rendition of a doppelbock. Pours a big thick creamy white head which dissipates at a steady pace, and tastes coffeish. The beer is of an iteresting shade of brown, very dark orange when held to the light, but otherwise... well... burnt umber is a good guess for the colour, or a strange shade of brown. Anyway, it looks quite nice, with some carbonation and lots of lacing. Smells.... chocolatey, coffeeish. Tastes nutty and coffeish. Roasty even in the aftertaste, but in a pleasant way. Almost porter-like taste. Just enough body. Hides its 6.5% extremely well (not that there’s much to hide). Very nice bottle, the usual Amarcord one, with the usual not-for-children label. This one is probably the most revealing. All in all, it’s the best Amarcord beer, which makes it the best San Marino beer. And probably in the top five if you count it as an Italian beer.
ucusty (1234), Wake Forest, North Carolina, USA Oct 5, 2008 Brown pour with a slight haze. Hazelnut and roasted malts on the nose. Thin bodied and rather bland. Caramel flavor with notable hints of roast. Finish’s slightly tart. patrick767 (1514), fort wayne, Indiana, USA Sep 28, 2008 bottle at Ft Wayne locals tasting - Pours hazy brown with a lingering head and a caramel malt aroma. It has a lightly fruit accented malt flavor. The main drawback here is how thin the body is. That could definitely be better. I thought the flavor was alright though. The finish is quite mild. Not bad and how many times do you see a beer from San Marino of all places? hotstuff (3046), Indiana, USA Sep 24, 2008 Flip-top bottle shared by patrick767. Small tan head that mostly diminished, no visible carbonation, hazy, spotty amounts of lacing, and an orange-brown hue. The aroma was malt, sour, funky, musty, stale, and slightly earthy. The flavor was watery, stale malt and slightly sour. Not an inviting flavor at all IMO. Slightly tingly mouthfeel and light bodied. This beer needs to be done away with so do not waste your time and money trying this one. NEXT!!! KAggie97 (2015), Ugly, Hot, and Humid Spring, Texas, USA Sep 24, 2008 Flip-cap bottle. Belgian ale? What? Pours an average neato reddish-brown with an aroma of soured malt and expired peach. Tastes of watered-down smoked ham and just-about-to-burn-out wood. Watery mouthfeel. Based on the style given, this beer sucks. jsquire (1904), St. Marys, Ohio, USA Sep 13, 2008 Murky reddish brown color witha fluffy khaki head. Grainy nose with lots of tea. Flavors of grains, burnt toast and too much water. Seems thin and uninteresting. I too am surprised this is listed as a Belgian Ale. Thanks to Patrick767 for sharing.
