COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION

341 bottle. Dark amber color with a little tan head. Bread and roasted malts, dark berries. Soke and chocolate also present but in a lesser extent. Medium bodied but still creamy enough. Long lasting bitter finish. Good.

Évaluation no. 86 Avril 2011. Puissant porter. Bien réussi.

pours a clear medium dark brown-red tint with a very nice creamy beige head, good retention. aroma of roasted figs, light smoke, cherries. roastiness, light acidity, light to medium hopping - resinous, grassy. lively, then settles, medium body, relatively short grassy finish.

341 ml bottle from Premier Wine and Spirits (Halifax). Pours a dark rubyish brown with a modest-sized tan head. Aroma is fairly roasty with toffee and chocolate. Flavour is somewhat sweet somewhat roasty with toffee, chocolate, a little raisin and a touch of spice. Lighter body than I would have anticipated though by no means light in absolute terms. Good.

Bouteille 341ml.

341ml bottle. Colour is very dark brown, looks almost black. Light does not penetrate it very far. Poured with a very thin tan head that disappeared almost immediately. A fair bit of carbonation bubbles. Once the head is gone these traits combine to make this look a lot like a glass of Coca-Cola. Aroma is not strong, mostly caramel/toffee with some dark chocolate. Taste is more toffee and chocolate with an odd sweetness. Hardly any bitterness, but a little smoke on the finish. Body was medium, which I’m led to believe is a little thin for a strong porter.

UPDATED: SEP 22, 2011 341mL bottle from Broue Ha Ha. Pours a nice cloudy dark brown, small tan head. The aroma is awesome, loads of sweet creamy chocolate, a hint of anise. Flavour hits right away with the sweet chocomalt, but with some cinnamon and spice. Rounds out slightly bitter but with accompanying sweet malt notes. Booze is somewhat present but over-all it’s pretty drinkable. Very nice beer, glad I could finally find an example of this most recently constructed style.

Bottle. Medium brown with ruby highlights and a persistent creamy head. Nice chocolatey aroma, notes of vanilla and coconut, caramel. Sweet malty chocolate, caramel, woody bitterness in the finish. Nice full-bodied creamy mouthfeel. Not terribly complex, but still enjoyable.

341ml bottle. Nearly opaque dark brown pour with some reddish highlights, tan head that has decent retention. Fairly generic grain dominates the nose with some roasted coffee and chocolate notes underneath, but they’re muted. Lighter on the palate than you’d hope for an imperial porter (or regular ol’ porter for that matter). All the classic porter notes are in there but none are really pronounced and there’s a nice bitterness in the finish. Mediocre for sure, but for the price who could complain really?

Tan head, black in colour. aromas caramel/toffee, sweet chocolate, roast and a hint of fruit cake. taste is fuller bodied, rich and creamy, nice toasty flavour. A very good porter.
