2.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 12/20 Rastacouere (5918) - Montréal, - JAN 31, 2011
A 1cm tan cover stays above the darkest brown pour. Black fruits meet mocha in this roasty, straightforward aroma. I appreciate a fruity imperial stout, but mostly when it develops vinous qualities that complement a great deal of malt complexity. Here, it is not that complex, chocolate/coffee and fruits (blackberries, plums, blueberries) sum it. The hop factor remains very light, providing soft woodsy and earthy undertones. Pretty tight, small-bubbled, very active carbonation punctuate the small-medium body for the style. One of these undecided ale, neither decadent in its focus nor complexity nor particularly drinkable. Ordinary, rather simple, heavily carbonated impy.
4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 VT (285) - Quebec City, Quebec, CANADA - MAY 14, 2012
341 ml bottle. Pours an opaque, orangeish black with a resilient beige head. Smells like roast and chocolate. Tastes like dark chocolate, roasted grains, milk chocolate. Nice, ash bitterness in the finish. Body is medium. Nice Imperial, yet a tad bit thin...
2.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 9/20 Quevillon (2011) - Sainte-Thérèse, Quebec, CANADA - APR 25, 2012
341 ml bottle that I got it free at Peluso (Montreal) on April 14, 2012. Black with floating yeast, small beige head. Malty aroma of coffee with a touch of barley. Coffee taste very dry, hints of sour fruit, just a few notes, taste bitter and dry. This is my last rating from these guys (thank goodness), I got it free because it’s best before date is May 2012 and nobody wanted to buy this beer, can you blame them?
3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 matt7215 (1639) - Cambridge, Ontario, CANADA - APR 21, 2012
341ml bottle shared by jsprime. black, tan head. thin and dry, light cocoa. to thin to be an impy stout, ok as a drinkable dark beer. not worth seeking out.
3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20 tom10101 (203) - Quebec, CANADA - APR 1, 2012
Bottle 341 ml. Appearance: Pours black with brown highlights and a small off-white head. Aroma: Moka, roasted malt, vanilla. Taste: Sweet, roasted malt, vanilla, dark fruits and a slight bitterness. Better mouthfeel would help. Overall: Drinkable but very thin for an imperial stout.
2.7 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 1/5 OVERALL 15/20 Fred82 (1824) - Montreal, Quebec, CANADA - FEB 9, 2012
341ml from Peluso.
Appearance : Deep dark mahogany with medium head. Not much lacing.
Aroma : Coffee and fruity hops. Roasted malt. Quite fruity. Not very rich. Light caramel.
Taste : Roasted malt with coffee. Hoppy finish with light bitterness. Bitter coffee. Very light chocolate. Light astringency on the finish that seem to come out because of the lack of malt. Some butterscotch is coming thru on the finish.
Palate : Very thin body especially for the style. Very soft carbonation. Watery mouthfeel.
Overall : Not a good example of the style. Too thin and watery. A bit too fruity and a bit too much butterscotch on the finish. This feels like a 3% dark beer... and not a good one.
2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20 beerbuzzmontreal (3426) - Montreal, Quebec, CANADA - FEB 2, 2012
Black pour with brown highlights ans a thin light brown head. Average aroma of coacoa and roasted malt. Almost boring flavor of roasted malt and coacoa with a mild bitter finish. The body is light to medium with a vinous texture and soft carbonation.
3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 VincentL (156) - montréal, Quebec, CANADA - JAN 24, 2012
