Named after Ripley’s local hero, who lived near our brewery tap, Barnes Wallis is our best selling session ale. Styled as an easy-drinking IPA-style bitter, copper-coloured for a full malt flavour and hopped with Northern Brewer and spicy Styrian Goldings.

Pint on cask. Pours amber with a creamy white head. Aroma is grassy, roasted malt, caramel, wholemeal bread, oak. Taste is grassy and earthy with caramel and roasted malt. Medium bitterness, some chocolate and banana, light bough, medium carbonation. Don’t know what an ’IPA-style bitter’ is meant to be.

Hand pulled at The Major Oak, Nottingham. Amber, one-dimensional (using that phrase a lot lately) bitter with a slight bitter taste and not much depth. So so ale.
