Cask at the Euston Tap, at 4.5% abv. Dark brown pour with a modest, off-white head. Lots of roasted malts in the aroma. After tasting it, I would say this beer is more black than IPA. Good, quite roasty with just a light hop character. Light to medium in body with fine carbonation. Some mild sugars and lingering roasted malts to finish. Very nice beer.

Arguably not a black IPA in the strictest sense (more a tangy, US-hopped mild?) but then it’s all the tongue and the head of the beholder. Cask handpull at The Talbot Taphouse (the Amber tap), Ripley, Derbyshire, 30/04/11- en route to Alfrescum with Pops MacDrunkeasy. Very dark ruby with a cream slick. Coffee and blueberry in the aroma. Good dusty espresso carbon over forest fruits. Light astringency in the afters taking it down a notch, but it could just be the poisoning influence of the cheese falling out of my cob (it was)...
