Bottle (50cl) from Vinmonopolet (Sandaker), Oslo. BB 27.5.2010. Clear, dark brown with a red hue. Finger-thick beige head reducing to a ring with a bit of lacing. Sweetish roasted malt nose, reminds me of ’vørterøl’ (unfermented malt beer), hint of dark chocolate, but there’s also a salty dimension, like miso soup. Powerful rustic malt taste, well balanced. Medium body, lighter than the ABV suggests. Soft carbonation. Dry and salty malt aftertaste. Not my favourite style of porter, but a good brew.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
UPDATED: NOV 26, 2013 This pours a lovely pint with its molasses dark brown body and thick chocolate cream top. The high-pitched malts one expects of a Baltic Porter emanate from the glass. Nuances of caramunich, caramel, melanoidin along with inferences of chocolate. Sweet, smoky caramel body with melandoin around the edges. Caramel popcorn quality in nose and flavor. Rerate: 11/26/13. Nothing has changed since the initial review. This is just a well-executed, nuanced, and fairly complex Baltic Porter that is perfect for the late fall and winter seasons.

Lovely dark beer, firm brown head.
Milk chocolate, malt, a hint of dryness. Latte.
Too much of the sweet milk for me, some smoke or bitterness would have lifted it.

500ml from Bestillingsutvalget, Vinmonopolet. Lots of small dimples to a frothy and fawn coloured head, displaying a solid stand. Deeply, near-black in the glass with a brownish shade if held to the light. Aroma of dark malts, containing coffee and anise. Fine blended flavour of dark chocolate and earthy malts with an integrated backdrop of dark fruits. Subdued sweetness and alcohol. Gets a bit grainy after an hour in the glass, otherwise well rounded to the palate and pleasant to drink (Tromsø, 10.04.2010).

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Flaske 0,5 l fra bestillingsutvalget til Vinmonopolet. Dyp dyp rødbrun. Nesten svart. Et lavt lysebrunt skum. Innbydende sjokoladepreget aroma. Smaken er svakt søtlig med innslag av sjokolade. Kaffesmaken dominerer etterhvert sammen med en anelse bitterhet. Velbalansert. KI=6
