2.6 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 12/20
A-- Poured more dark brown than black. Settled Black but very opaque. Lots of reddish brown tints to this. Brown sugar colored head, settled at one finger, good head retention and no visible carbonation once all settled down. Pour showed medium carbonation.
S-- Sweet chocolate, anise, and a boozy nose. Coffee is very faint and overpowered by the anise smell. Very anise and alcohol forward.
T-- Very sweet and alcohol forward taste. Sweet chocolate, anise (lots of it) and a lot of booze. Just a faint bit of coffee in this.
M-- Malts decide to show up in the mouth, as well as the coffee. Just a bit of a bitter coffee taste. Really thin for the smell. Very aggressive front (chocolate, booze, and anise) but weak back (coffee and roasted malt). Medium carbonation but needs a bit less.
D-- Sipper. Big time sipper.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
50cl bottle. Dark brown, almost black with small tanned head. Nose : toffee, chocolate, cheese. Subtil burned malt aromas reminds of a fresh coffee. Sip : first of all the body is mild, medium density with creamy, smooth texture. Very pleasent to swallow. Sweet with strong toffee notes. Nicely burned malt flavor. Dairy feeling with some little aromatic hops in the aftertaste. The alcohol is well hidden. The beer is really nice.

3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
The beer is almost black with a creamy tan head. Very nice sweetness with some mild roast, dark fruit, cola, and a bit of grain. The sweetness is excellent almost doppelbock-like. A bit of cola, some dark fruit, and like cocoa powder. Just a hint of bitterness to go with bread and toffee.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
A lasting beige head remains over the cola dark brown pour. A blast of chocolate and licorice is the main defining parameter in this malt-forward beer with a rich toasty/bready character and subtler, albeit varied dark fruity notes - raisins and dates reminiscent. Fairly oily palate due to the low carbonation and relative thickness, but creamy enough to remain agreeably integrated, its breadiness giving a cake-like dessert connotation. Fairly sweet and containing it with tobacco and earthy nuances + the fruity richness that maintain the interest. Not strong enough to be a sipper, but complex enough to be a captivating drink. Soft and smooth baltic porter with a full creamy body.

3.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
UPDATED: AUG 27, 2014 0.5 bottle. Body is black but after inspection against a light source some reddish tinges emerge indicating a very dark brown, not black color. Head relatively large and brownish colored. Aroma is composed mostly of roasted malts, dark chocolate, coffee and a tad of liquorice. Taste is sweet with a hint of bitterness, resembles not-overly dark chocolate. Medium body and a creamy, slightly thick texture. Carbonation could be classified as simply soft while finish is a fine elongation of the taste itself. Resembles averagely dark chocolate with a drop of coffee. Overall the beer is nicely balanced, I enjoyed the beer and will likely try to catch it on tap in the future. Its primary advantage is that despite its strength one cannot feel the alcohol in taste.

4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
Poured into a pint glass. About a finger of tan head formed on a dark brown, almost black body. The head held solidly.
Smells of roasted malt, tinge of burnt barley, black licorice, and dry barn hay.
Milky taste, toasted barley, strong black licorice and dark chocolate. Alcohol in the breath at the end.
Texture is creamy and smooth. Low carbonation.
Extremely well made and balanced. A dark profile without left up. The licorice might be too much for some.
