2.4 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 10/20 bulldogops (377) - Alberta, CANADA - MAY 27, 2013
Bottle. 5.6%. Aroma does the job, mild chocolate, burnt espresso. Pours is a dismal, earthy brown with a weak brown foam. Flavour is fairly bland, heavy on roast malts and burnt grain, little chocolate on the palate but mouthfeel is cloying. Not impressive.
3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 pintbypint (2000) - Edmonton, Alberta, CANADA - SEP 17, 2012
Tap at MKT. Brown pour, light tan head. Nose is chocolatey, light roast as well. Taste has a light raisin note, roasted malt and chocolate. Finishes with a slight tang, then gets dry and roasty. Light bodied. Soft carbonation. Pretty nice semi dry stout.
3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 Eructoblaster (2518) - Gatineau, Quebec, CANADA - JUL 27, 2012
Bottle - 341ml. Opaque black body with low carbonation and a thin beige foamy head. Loverly malty/hoppy aroma with chocolate hints. Taste carries strong vineous, chocolate, and plummy notes. Ends with a robust bittersweet finish. Interesting.
3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 kliggerwar (105) - - JUL 18, 2012
A great chocolaty stout. Not as sweet like Phillips Longboat Chocolate Porter also another favorite, but with a hint of the sweet coco which makes it equally as delicious and satisfying. Great for winter and should be recommended to Guinness drinkers they might have another favorite beer to look forward too.
2.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 11/20 sulawang (418) - British Columbia, CANADA - JUN 18, 2012
pours cola black, minimal head, a few fast moving co2 streams. Light choco coffee on the nose. Sourness (6/10) up front, chocolate coffee, but finishes watery and no carry.
3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 thb (617) - Alberta, CANADA - JUN 15, 2012
Tap. Dark dark brown, near black, ample tan head. Usual stoat suspects of roast, coffee, but with the addition of some bitter dark chocolate and a kick of sweetness. A slight vegetal touch detracts a little bit, but overall reasonably pleasant.
3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 reebtogi (3388) - Edmonton, Alberta, CANADA - AUG 21, 2011
341mL bottle poured almost black with thin tan head and little lacing. Aroma is chocolate and light roasted malt. Taste is sweet chocolate and bitterness of roasted malts and some light hops. Body is a little thin for a stout and carbonation is moderate. Overall, a decent stout, but could be better with some more body and additional hops.
2.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20 Powertrip (999) - Calgary, Alberta, CANADA - APR 25, 2011
Single bottle purchased from Zyn Liqour in Calgary, AB on 04/15/2011. Colour: As expected, dark to black with medium shaded head that quite quickly evaporated. Nose: Moss, honey ham, burnt oates, shoe polish. The chocolate is not evident...not sure if actual cocoa was used? Taste: Medium-light sweet, medium sour, light bitter. Strong tang but missing the real powerful crisp roasted malt & coffee that make a solid stout. Traces of cocoa, but again - where is the big chocolate that one would assume shoud be around considering the name? This mouth feel too.
2.8 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 gramity (1090) - Edmonton, Alberta, CANADA - MAR 23, 2011
Pours quite dark, in the glass it appears near black. A firm pour generated a thin beige head that left behind only a slim ring after fading fast.
Dark malts , creamy coffee and toast hit the nose. I can’t find much chocolate in the aroma until this one warms, then the impression of dark chocolate pops up.
Flavour is more of a dry stout profile, chocolate doesn’t start showing until the stout is about cellar temperature. Dry, roasted malt type flavour, leaning more to the bitter and astringent end of the spectrum. Finish is a little unpleasant, almost medicinal.
A bit of fullness to the mouthfeel is nice, but the carbonation is a tad prickly.
2.4 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 8/20 Labelnoir (9) - Edmonton, Alberta, CANADA - MAR 8, 2011 does not count
A nice dark pour, thick but short lasting head,
smooth feel, dark cedar and burnt toast note.
As far as a small brew local stout goes, not too shabby,.
