fiulijn (6000), Como; Lausanne (CH); Malmö (SWE), Italy Jan 16, 2003 2 years old
Beautiful ruby amber color; generous, creamy head. Malt aroma; caramel; light fruitness (cherry-like). Dry and sour taste, refreshing; malt (and a residual sweetness) with some fruity hint (light cherries...).
I would rather define it as a Flemish Sour Ale. DruncanVeasey (1787), No. 46, Leicestershire, Belgium Nov 20, 2008 Bottle, in the shrine-like miraculous basement at De Bierloods. Dark and dubbelish pour capped with creamy beige receding to a slick. Nose brazen Brett-like edge, Orvalish freshness peppered with pollen and floral hops. Rose, lily, lavender, farmyard. Trappist-like nuts and choc. Big yeast presence, blanket of horse. Chocolate, nuts, fresh bread. Slick dark Trappist character (Westmalle Dubbel?) with spontaneous touches. Got to get hold of another bottle of this. Hildigöltur (5056), København Ø, Denmark Mar 29, 2005 Deep dark reddish brown coloured with nice head. Fruity and spicy aroma. Soft mouthfeel. Sweet and fruity with spicy notes and some complexity. A very tasty brew. KimJohansen (4299), Copenhagen V, Denmark Oct 8, 2007 [At Chez Moeder Lambic] Dark red with medium beige head. Sweet and spicy aroma. Taste is vinous and complex. Very good. MartinT (4447), Montreal, Quebec, Canada May 23, 2004 Recurring Christmas spices around scurring berries and roastiness...Chocolatey virility overseeing candi sugar and alcoholic puerility...A very satisfying interpretation of the Belgian rich and spicy theme...
