Alengrin (100) - BELGIUM - JUL 24, 2014
Beer brand marketed by Anders since 2011, and I believe they took it over from De Dool. Lightly cloudy, golden blonde beer with a stable, snow white head and a yeasty aroma revealing hints of grapefruit, green apple, dried fruits and subtle herbs (coriander?). Taste begins with a citrussy freshness and light spiciness, malt sweetishness in the middle and yeasty and moderately hoppy finish. Nothing out of the ordinary, but enjoyable enough.

UPDATED: JUN 12, 2014 0,40L on tap at Bunker, Ljubljana. Hazy yellow colour, with small, creamy, white head, that goes into a crown. Aroma starts citrusy, than spices like corriander comes out. There are also biscuity malts, caramel and yeasts. Taste starts gently bitter, than goes slightly sweet with orange, honey and caramel. The end become light bitter again. Medium to full body, oily texture and soft carbonation. It’s tapped properly and has almost no carbonation. I really enjoyed this one.

33cl bottle. It is hazy with explosive carbonation and a medium head. NOSE : biscuit, yeast aromas of cottage cheese, orange zest, peach, spicy pepper. Lemon juice. SIP : creamy and pleasant mouth feel with strong carbonation. It reveals a sweet grainy flavors on the beginning. It gets more dry and becomes equally bitter on the end. The aftertaste is dry and bitter with notes of herbs, clove and zest. OVERALL : it’s a well balanced beer. Satisfying bitterness and a very good carbonation. Not bad at all.

Bottle: Served in a Chouffe glass: Ok, so a big plop, when opening this bottle, caused me with a quick reaction to resque some beer, at least I thought so. There’s this incredible fast growing/exploding off white airy foamy head that does not reveal anything more than foam... In the meanwhile, the bottle kept gushing a foamy snake, and this motherfucker was long... The entire bottle was foam and all that came out, crawling, was a snake foamed gusher... And everytime I could pour a little more beer in my glass, up went the head and out came the snake... Fucking annoying. Took me five minutes to get the beer in my glass, well, that what was left... After a while, 5 minutes or so, there’s a hazy to more murky yellow orange colored beer revealing itself... A blond... Hmmm... Aromas of yeast, fruit, apricot, some peach, some tangerine, malts, toast, bread, flowers, grains and light sweet. Flavours of cream, hops, peach, apricot, apples, some tangerine, light lemon, some sweet (fruit) tones, sugars, hay, malts, yeast, herbs and light dry. A warming bitter malty and grassy to more hay tone covers the aftertaste. Low carbo, creamy mouthfeel, medium bodied and a creamy texture. Ok that gusher sucked, the beer itself was a bit doomed by the gusher experience and prejudice of what was to come (Belgian Ale, (Belgian) yeast...) But the flavours are crisp fruity and change into a more bitter malty aftertaste. Quite nice actually.
