COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Breakaway IPA is made with Vienna and Munich malts to give this beer its malty flavor blended with a generous amount of Amarillo and Simcoe hops, which give this beer its signature citrusy character. The starting gravity is about 15 degrees plato (S.G. 1068), which means that the alcohol by volume is about 7%.

Amber, a little chewy, earthy hop, quite a bit chewy, lots of crystal. So un-Seattle. The hops end up being quite muted and you end up with an oversized amber, which to me doesn’t really work.

Serving: from tap at Pagliacci Pizza. Aroma: light pine hop. Appearance: average-sized, creamy, off-white, initial head with very good lacing and fully diminishing longevity. Cloudy, light-amber body. Taste: lightly bitter initial flavor and lightly bitter, grapefruit finish with average duration. Palate: medium body, oily texture and soft carbonation. Overall: very good.

Good retention and good lacing. Smells of sweet malts, cereal, sweet bread and floral. Tastes of sweet malty bread, pine, floral and citrus hops. Very bitter finish. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Darker amber pour with a big white head. Aroma is grapefruit, burnt plastic, and malt. Taste is pretty much the same. Not sure what happened to this bottle... Drain pour.

Pours a clear golden amber with a massive scratch that explosive dull white head(definitely out of control) and a good amount of lace. Aroma is malty, citrus, fruity, kinda stale, some cardboard. Flavour is pine, grapefruit, fruity esters, carbonation is a bit high kinda stale, mild cardboard(maybe oxidization) well balanced medium bitterness and some caramel malt backbone also lending to a decent balance.

Pours a hazy orangish copper with a huge frothy most ice cream like off white head. Aroma of citrus, grapefruit, pine, honey dew, sweet pale malts and light fruity esters. Taste is citrus, melon, grapefruit, pine and a nice smooth caramel malty sweetness. Love the balance of this ipa and the fruity sweetness combined with the malty backbone... Easy to drink and likely to put you in your ass quickly.

Pours cloudy amber. Good head, crazy lacing. Smells of grapefruit, dish soap, lemon, spruce. Taste is malty, not sweet, some citrus bitter hop. More bitter than many IPAs. Palate is creamy. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

bottle. pours a dark amber color with a white head and moderate lacing. aroma is piney and citrusy, but more mellow than hoppy. flavor is resiny and with some mild citrus, and bitter on the finish, but quite smooth with some toasty notes and not very hoppy up front. surprising, but not bad.

Bottled: unk Hazy golden with a dome and rim of fine whites. Smells of Grapefruit, tangerines, malts are a bit oxidized with woody character, biscuit, resin and hints of pine. Decent nose. Taste is balanced with bitterness and sweet malts, the hops are resiny and piny with some grapefruit and a little touch of lemon. Medium bodied with lower carb and a wettish finish. Okay beer. Original review: 31AUG11 - 3/1.5/1.5/3/2 -1.83 Bottle date: unk ABV: 7.2% A: pours a toasted amber ale with near excellent clarity and a transient finger of white foam, falls to a broken sheet of the same. No lace. S: Smells like grass, weeds, soil, hay, grain and oxidized malts. Not impressed whatsoever. T: Bitter over sweet malts and cardboard. Some hints of honey on the finish. Not getting any substantial hop flavors, just underlying bitterness. Disappointment. M: Medium bodied with moderate carb. Semi-dry finish. O: This beer has no craft in it for me. I’m unimpressed at best. Poor first impression. Serving type: bottle 12-21-2012

On tap at Rogue Wet Bar, pours a hazy golden orange with a small white head. Aroma is quite dry and full of piney hops. Flavour brings out dry piney hops, floral notes and fairly harsh astringency on the finish - just enough crisp biscuity malt to back. Quite drinkable and thirst-quenching, but nothing overly interesting. Good stuff.
