At the end of a fabled week during the winter of 1980, in a fever-pitched Olympic stadium, one hockey game changed the course of American sports history. Barroom legend has it that the night before the underdog American team took to the ice with no chance of winning, world champion coach Herb Brooks took a sip of a bold and simple ale that inspired the bold and simple words that inspired a team to become legends. Now we ask you, what was the true miracle on February 2, 1980? We can’t be sure what the exact formula was for Brooks’ inspiration. But this IPA’s bold and aromatic blend of floral and citrus hard checks your nose and follows it up with a medium intense hop bitterness that doesn’t linger. We shot. We scored.

(650ml bottle) Purchased at Hillside Liquors. Pours a frothy white head atop a solid orange body. Nose is tinny and Seville oranges. Flavour is marmalade, solid malt base. Overly sweet. Okay.

Nice looking amber pour. Aroma is big piney NW hops with solid sweet malt tones. The flavour is all hops, finishing quite bitter. Not much malt complexity, but nice hop profile. Tasty.

Draught at the World Craft Beer Tasting 2013 in Osaka. Intriquing sweet fruity nose, orange blossoms and lemon. Decently hoppy initial / very mild and balanced in mid / fades out in final w/o much in the way of hop tracks. Nice aroma and a subtle sweetness. Good session IPA.

From IGA market in Sequim, WA. Pours a hazy amber with a nice sized off-white head. Sticky lacing rings. The nose is full hops with pine and citrus. Medium in body. Resin in the mouthfeel. Flavor is a good balance of caramel malts and the hops. Some bitterness in the finish, but mostly it is grapefruit. Solid IPA. Good.

22oz bottle. Ridiculously large off-white rocky head atop hazy amber body. Aroma is medium sweet, grapefruit, resin, some bread. Taste is moderately sweet, grapefruit/pine, light astringency. Effervescent medium body, some resin.

Aromas of resin, citrus. Massive amounts of carbonation with huge pillowing white head, great lacing, hazy Amber in color. Malt, caramel, bitterness, tropical fruit, floral flavors I imagine this isn’t very fresh and would probably be pretty tasty fresh, another reason I wish it was dated.

Bomber. This particular beer was crap. Way to carbonated. Was a waste of my money.

October 2012. 22 oz. bottle. A nice surprise find while in Portland. Amber color with a white head. Medium body and carbonation. Nice floral aromas with hops and tropical fruit. Excellent IPA.

Appearance pours a cloudy orange amber supporting a steady head leaving fair curtain of lace. Smell has a sweet citrus piney aroma with caramel malt. Taste has an upfront hit of hops with grapefruit citrus backed by the sweetness of the malt. Mouthfeel is medium with good carbonation.

Bottle, 22oz. A hazy, dark amber colored beer topped by a small, dense, light beige head. The aroma escaping the bottle immediately after opening it was wonderwul, tropical fruits and pine cones in abundance. When poured into the glass, it’s still nice, but the maltyness is a bit too evident I think. Some caramel and bready notes. In the flavor the bitterness is king, but the caramel, bready malts do what they can to smoothen it out. Pine cones, some pineapple and a grassy touch too. Full body, pleasant carbonation. Lasting finish with citrus peel, canned pineapples syrup and bitterness. Fortunately not as malty as the initial flavor. Certainly a beer I could drink more of, even though I prefer my IPA’s less malty. 130630
