thedm (3407), Fort Wayne, Indiana, USA Dec 27, 2005 This canned brew poured a small sized head of frothy fine to medium sized mostly diminishing white colored bubbles that left behind an unnoted lacing. The body contained soft carbonation, was transparent and yellow in color. Its aroma contained notes of malt hop and was a bit skunky. Its mouth feel is initially tingly bubbly and thin on flavor with a lingering tingly palate and a thin flavor in the aftertaste. Its flavor contained thin malt hop rice notes. Too carbonated bubbly and fizzy for meNot one I would buy again. hotstuff (3046), Indiana, USA Dec 6, 2004 Can. Medium sized white head, fair lacing, very little carbonation, transparent, and a pale yellow hue. Malty and skunky aroma. Sweet and malty flavor. Tingly mouthfeel. Light bodied. Enough said. Nate (2285), Indiana, Pennsylvania, USA Mar 31, 2003 Slight metallic aroma. Sweetish corn smell and very little hops. Mild. Soda-like head - big white and frothy then disappears. Visible carb in light pale straw color. Light watery body and high carbonation - almost fizzy. Actually has a decent taste for an American light. Corn/rice sweet notes, very little hops. Bit of bitterness, more from the can than hops. Slight chemical after and sweet dull finish. A decent "value-priced" American light. Much better than their Old German. cheapdark (1639), Monacatootha, Pennsylvania, USA Jan 11, 2007 Updated: Dec 31, 2007How did PGH Brewing ever score the rites to a name like American?
Yes, the american light form the company that invented the first ‘light beer’ & the makers of light brigade. Don’t say ‘this is first’ because it is one of the low price leaders in the south western PA region. 29 US cents per 12 oz can. Nice average flavor for a lager. I heard this is sold abroad and it sells well outside of the US. It says it has the strength of america in it. Pours very light yellow but not quite bright enough to be called lemon. Not a ticker because I rate this as I taste. Very few bubbles in the brew but the carbonation is decent to below average. It is a little bit light on the palate. Personally, I think that PGH brewing’s other lite knock off ‘brigade’ may be much better. A well behaved lager with a rapidly fading finish that is not an insult to the back of your throat. Good deal and it fills in where the raters leave off.
LinusStick (1569), Moon Township, Pennsylvania, USA Nov 28, 2006 If I wans’t from Pittsburgh this woud be rated the lowest. Here in Pgh, we drank this when we were young and hiding in the woods. I guess whoever we stole it from didn’t miss it. Tried it again and it hasn’t changed.
