3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Dark brown color with a huge woody nose that has some chocolate, cream, and burnt coffee. Flavor is big and chocolatey/roasty with an overwhelming woodiness that takes away more than it adds. Vanilla and subtle sweetness are ruined by too much booze. My suspicion is that A) The base impy stout is thin and mono dimensional and B) This one sat in the barrel too long.

4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
12 oz bottle, sampled at the 2005 Festival of Barrel Aged Beers, Chicago: opaque. A beautiful black ruby, letting no light through…thing ring of dark chocolate head. The aroma changes as it warms – bitter chlorophyll, melting into dark chocolate and subtly roasted coffee beans. Interesting palate, filled with a bit of smoke, darkly roasted cherries and meat. The vinous qualities come in through the finish – a solid imperial and very tasty.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Black pour with dark tan head. Aroma of bourbon, vanilla and roasted malt. Bourbon flavor melds well with roasted malt. Not one flavor overwhelms the other. Nice lacing.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
A strong aroma of bourbon abounds as soon as its poured. Beer pours a dark black with a thin tan head. Along with the bourbon aroma there are notes of roasted malt, chocolate and some lighter coffee notes. Flavor starts off with a very strong bourbon presence and moves into a smooth chocolate, coffee and dark malt notes, ending with an alcohol and bourbon flavor. Beer has fine carbonation and a medium density. Overall a good beer, a solid bourbon presence and nice woody notes.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle. Aroma is very chocolatey, significant barrell character.
Opaque, motor oil brown with a thin creamy tan head that leaves thin lines of sporadic lacing. Quite sweet and chocolately upfront, not a really potent bourbon flavor, but it is present and noticeable oak in the finish. Full and creamy with a welcome faint carbonation.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Black pour, small brown head that fades to nothing. Aroma is boozy pretty much all bourbon. Flavor is much the same straight bourbon and lots of oak. Some dark fruits, coconut, a hint of chocolate, a subtle touch of coffee and yes more bourbon. The bourbon isn’t insanely huge but it’s the only flavor going on. Mouthfeel is thin, watery and flat. Just boring.

3.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
UPDATED: FEB 22, 2010 Bottle, courtesy kiefdog. Dark brown pour with reddish highlights. No head and minimal lacing. Big woodsy oak notes in the nose, some smoke and peat. Roast, toast, some caramel, and a waft of raisin and licorice. Flavor isn’t quite as good, with bright hops, some sticky cocoa, caramel and roast in the finish, with some peat as well. Smooth and full-bodied. Had to haver this one.
