mmmbeergood (14), Elburn, Illinois, USA Feb 28, 2006 This has to be one of the finest sippin beers I’ve ever tasted. Very smooth, dark rich colour. nice bourbon/oak aroma. Overall a real belly warmer on a cold nite. Had it on tap at pub PhillyBeer2112 (1814), Orange Park, Florida, USA Jun 1, 2008 Throwdown. Acrid sweet malts. Whiskey type tannic sweetness. Huge acrid malt flavors. Gigantic bitter sweet finish. Wahoo. TAR (1995), Boulder Co., Colorado, USA Nov 14, 2005 Bottle @ Festival of Barrel Aged Beers: Midnight black. Dense topping of light bronze foam. Lovely aroma of milk chocolate, nougat, and vanilla infused marshmallow. Soft, viscous in body. Immediately touts its firmness with a sharp tannic tingle and a charred wood impact. Soothing malt softness gracefully quells the alcohol, though the tannins retain their forcefulness. Fairly depthless at the center, due to the forward tannins and late burnt malt hull push, but lush chocolate soon awakens to compensate. Very soft with bourbon-derived huskiness dovetailing with soft vanilla. Quite the fitting mixture of burnt raisins, caramel, and a dusting of cocoa. Huskiness remains prominent in the finish, but the caramel and marshmallow softness still manage to poke through. Now this was a surprise - Big but elegant. Has a wonderfully composed nose, and the bourbon restraint in both aroma and flavor allows the array of nuances to flourish. In the land of bourbon barrel-aged monotony, this was the prize of the bunch for me. BBB63 (3676), La Porte, Indiana, USA Oct 15, 2005 GABF 2005: Opaque with an oily film and a small creamy head which together coats the glass quite well. The aroma has notes of light oak and whisky but a nice integration with the stout characters of chocolate, coffee, berry, and smoke. The taste has a wonderful balance of sweetness and bitterness with noticeable bourbon notes, but they only provide a nice kick on the finish and not overpowering. The feel is sticky smooth with the alcohol well hidden. Outstanding, one of my favorite surprises of the fest. I need to get over to Aurora one of these days. SkyinBrian (389), Collinsville, Illinois, USA May 29, 2008 12 oz bottle, Thanks NobleSquirrel!
Pours dark black(obviously). Aroma is mostly Bourbon(obviously) with a hint of chocolate.
Full bodied, not quite as big as some huge imperial stouts, but definately true to style. Tastes of chocolate, dark fruits ans sweet alcohol with plently of bourbon character. a slight roastiness is present in the long lingering finish to this beer.
OH, gotta go...LOST is starting.
